I'm off with HID to Carton House for a long weekend so while she's off at the spa I'm planning on getting a couple of rounds in on one of the courses there. Has anybody played either of the courses.( The Montgomerie or The O'Meara) and have any views on which would be the more forgiving course to a high handicapper?

Have played both courses. The Monty is a brute whereas the O'Meara course is more gentle and forgiving.

Thats what I have heard from th elucky sods I know who have played there.

Definitely play the O'Meara course. It's much more relaxed and forgiving. It's also prettier, especially along the river. The Monty is brilliant, but so tough. Bunkers are practically pot hole bunkers and you'll be playing sideways all day.

I seen it advertised at 65yoyos for a midweek round - I was very tempted.

If you can get it for 65 quid you're doing well!

Also, if you're staying in the hotel you'll need to get back in your car and drive up to the 1st tee as it's a good walk away (and beside the 18th green). Alternatively there is a courtesy car that will give you a lift from the clubhouse.

O'Meara it is then. I think I can get it for €55 before nine so thats the plan. and thanks for the heads up on needing the car to get to first tee.
