I was unable to attend the NW v NE meet this Sunday as it was my privilege to host the Captains Weekend at my club this week.

Two days of providing refreshments and encouragement at the halfway hut on sat and sun with a Captains bash on the Sat night after which i managed to get 3 hours sleep up at 4.30am on sunday morning to prepare for the day as play started at 7.28.

Then straight through to the presentaion at 9pm last night. There was lots of people I had to say thank you to and you cannot believe how kind some people are.

The much maligned ladys section provided much of the labour needed at the Hut for both days the professional and the headgreen keeper were both diamonds.

Best of all was the members, not one complaint over the two days and miracle of miracles every single card was returned on both days.

If ever you get the oppotunity to become Club Captain grab it with both hands as it only happens once in a lifetime, but let me warn you it's hard work but worth it.

Tell me, as I genuinely don't know. Do all the prizes put up for Captain's day come from the Captain, or does the club give you a budget to spend?

Yes quite right you do get a budget to spend at the start of the year as you have to provide prises for various sections throughout the year.

Its up to you how you allocate the money, you also get a 35% discount on bar prices.

It is hard work being captain but...........
it has it's compensations.
If you're thinking about applying for the position here are 2.......
Your own parking space and free golf almost everywhere you go for a whole year :)

Good to hear of a captain how does good work at the club , the guy at our club is not the greatest he never seems to represent the club in any way he couldn't even turn up for end of seasons presentation he never plays in inter club matches its a bit embarrasing and his golfing ability well i wont mention it, the two former captains were very good always about asking opinions and involved in the golf side of the club representing the club in nearly everything.
Keep up the good work Doh.

Assuming the leopard hasn;t suddenly changed his spots, then who proposed, seconded and voted the guy in?

Well done Rick, I'm sure you were a great host!

Having a get together at my place in next month or two, hope you'll be able to make it.

He was one of those guys who'd been on every committee so eventually he had to get it which is a pity because there are other guys on the committee who would have done a better job, thank god this is his last year.

Well done sir - great effort. Our captains day is usually a great event with an am and pm event and prizes for both sections plus and overall winner. I have to say our lady members also do a good job on the day with the drinks and snack tents.

I'm pleased to see a captain putting so much into his year and getting so much from it. Like the OP said it is a once in a lifetime thing and a good captain is always remembered in years gone by.

I have to say I saw a vice-captain yesterday that I thought didn't give a good example. They were playing another club in an official match and his partner was drinking lager on the way round and both he and the vice captain were swearing and cursing their way round. We were behind and it didn't set a good example to me as a visitor.
