We currently hold a 18 hole Stab comp off the whites, full handicap on a wednesday during the summer, known as the Captains Card, part of the entry goes to his Charity.

This years Captain wants to change the format and has asked for advice, he proposes the following:

18 hole Stroke comp off the whites, full handicap, comp to be open mon-fri, members can enter every day if they wish, non-qualifying.

Obviously a few issues with his proposal, but basically, can we do it and if so can you run a comp like this on software.

If it's non-qualifier, you can do what you like. I don't know about the software part of the question though - it will probably help to state what software your club uses, I'm sure there will be some experts along shortly.

Cheers, MasterScoreboard

Not really any rules issues if it's planned to be run as a non qualifier.
Just set it up as a series of NQ one day comps for the days its open as the easy option, then pool the results to get the overall winners. If you run it as a single NQ alternate day comp I'm not sure they permit entry on more than one day - If they do then that's even easier.

club ive just left ran our midweek comps from mon-fri. im pretty sure for the system they just set it to the date of the friday for the whole comp to keep it all as one comp. there maybe a better way but it can definitely be done

Don't understand the desire to change from Stableford to stroke play? Imo, makes rounds slower and less enjoyable - keep it Stableford!

Captain off scratch, believes majority of comps should be stroke, entries will determine whether it’s a good idea or not.
Tbh, I’m more concerned somebody could be way under Par and not be cut.

for me the only problem could be trying to enter multiple cards for the same player for one competition.

surely it would be better to just post the cards in a designated box, which could be checked and collated on the Friday evening.

Your club uses Handicapmaster software. I believe their "best of series" competition template will answer your Captain's needs. It will allow you to specify the 5 days as the series and you have different options to identify winners, including the best individual score over the 5 rounds - and a player can play as many of the rounds as he wants.

You will get a definitive answer on how to run such a competition from the HandicapMaster Forums website here:

Ahh, setting it for his own benefit, not for the club! Now I understand.

Full handicap, measured course and not a qualifier. I'm with you on this, it really should be a qualifier. Perhaps he's more worried that he would be going up.
He’s a great lad mate, in all fairness 90% of our comps are Stab and he’s trying to redress the balance a little, the reason he wants it as non-qualifier is to encourage more to enter as there’ll be less pressure and it’ll raise more for his charity.

Thanks for the other replies
