Can we become too dependent....

If I didn't use one I'd be pacing distances from yardage books or markers which would just slow things up.

Slime.

Depends...I reckon I play faster than most guys using their DMDs/GPSs - even though I will occasionally pace out a distance

But I do get the feeling (I clearly don't know) that it could be all to easy to set your shot and club selection on the distance your device tells you - with that distance immediately setting in your mind the sort/shape of shot you are going to play.

I love my GPS. When I've driven it miles offline it's essential to know how far it is back over the trees!
I've caught myself glancing at it before hitting a chip, what exactly I expect it to tell me then I have no idea.

Not me! look at watch when i am about 5 yards away from my ball, park trolley, remove club, hit ball, repeat. having a GPS adds zero time to my game.

Delays have very little to do with the units it All depends on the person , you get people flaffing around stepping out & you get people flaffing around with GPS ,

I thought they were un necessary until i got one , where as they may not be necessary i find them a great help

Same here so stop yer whining and use your loaf to get you round the course, I bet I get more satisfaction out of a good game than anyone that uses a gps device.

And when did you ever have a good game? :p

All that coming from the man who kept shouting over to me from the rough at Ballyliffin asking how far to the green according to my GPS :mmm: :ears:

If your pacing out distances then the player with a DMD has already hit the ball and on his way to the next shot - so I think they would easily go round quicker. It takes about 2-3 seconds to check using a DMD and then you are sorted and done. DMD's don't slow up golf

I hit more greens by not using a GPS. Stopped using mine as it was messing with my concentration and I was hitting poor shots because of it.

I can't understand how a gps stops you hitting the green ? And knowing a distance messing with your concentration isn't the fault of the GPS - that's the fault of the golfer. Blaming a gps on hitting poor shots ?

The satisfaction comes from hitting good shots and hitting good rounds regardless of what equipment is used

Bullplop, I never asked once, sure I can even wind a driver down to whatever yardage I "feel" like! ;)
pm incoming btw.

I disagree, the more you can account of it to yourself the better (inmy opinion of course!)

It's still the same score - it's still the same birdie or par etc

Should people get more satisfaction from cheaper balls or cheaper less standard clubs or shoes etc

What equipment is used shouldn't really matter - it's the score that counts.

If we both went round in level par I can guarantee we would both be equally satisfied

Nah, I think Brendy would be more satisfied as his handicap is higher.......:ears:

For me, satisfaction comes from playing the shots I want to. GPS giving me the yardage or "guessing" it - same meat different gravy.

Sorry yes you are spot on in regards handicap  - obviously that would make a difference

And totally agree with your last sentence

Look who's talking! :P
I still disagree though.

It doesn't matter who or what is at fault does it though? If he feels like he concentrates better without a GPS, then that's enough isn't it?

I have a GPS, but in all honesty, I forget to use it more often that I use it. Or, I let the batteries run down and forget to replace them. It's not a necessity, and I doubt that I'd miss it if I sold it tomorrow...

Oh, and whats all this "pacing out yardages stuff"? Walk to ball, look at nearest marker post, think "That looks about 20 yards", take out club, hit ball, walk on.... Seriously, who paces out yardages? :D
