Thinking of filming my swing to see where I'm going wrong. I have lesson with the pro every fortnight but I'm just so slow on the uptake. It's got to much easier if you can see what's happening. I'm after an easy to use video camera (with decent slow mo if poss) also could do with a family camera for pics. So really want a hybrid if you will. Anyone know if there is such a thing out there? Prob looking between £100-150. Thanks muchness

The best cameras for golf swings are Casio. The ones that have a high speed option where you can record in slo motion are the dogs. They are rare now though and Ebay is your best bet. I have the EX FH20 model and it is fantastic. There is a thread on here from a while ago about the models to get

I've not got one myself but I've been looking into this myself and the Casio FH20 or 25 seems to be a good option.

Have you got smart phone? There is an app call V1 that lets you film your swing and replay it in slow motion, its free and might be of help.

I'm a professional photographer/videographer and if I was filming something to show to people or making sure I was taking good photos of someone I'd use my Canon 5d miiii - beautiful silky smooth video and stills but at two grand a long way outside the budget.

Barring that I'd use my iPhone (or another smart phone - most have decent cameras now) - If I want to check my swing I'll film it with the iPhone and an app like v1 to control it and I can't remember the last time I took a family snapshot with a camera other then the one on my phone.

I do photography as a hobby but for golf I use my ipad mini and the free app Ubersense, its pretty good and you can mail it etc easily

Casio seem to be the only manufacturer who make slow mo cameras in your budget.
There are 3 types
The older FH20/25 which are the larger 'bridge' style cameras 9 or 10 mp

The more compact FC range FC 100/FC150 10mp

Or the newer ZR range with 16mp

All are quite hard to get hold of in this country so keep checking Ebay.
Make sure whichever model you choose has HS (high speed) on the body of the camera.

I have the FC 150 which I use for teaching and can highly recommend it.

PM me if you want more info

Cheers fellas, I thought there may of been more choice. I've got my eye on a fh20 on eBay, seems like I'll have to up the budget though.

I'm a pro photographer and have got the FH 20. It's excellent in 310 frames per second mode, although the resolution goes down the more slo mo you use. A great feature, if someone else is videoing you, is that you can half press the shutter at address then fully press it when the swing starts. The camera automatically records from a couple of seconds before the full press so you get the start of the swing, and not 20 seconds of slow motion waggles. Don't expect HD quality on slow motion, but performance at normal speed & still pictures are excellent. Nothing comes near it for the price.

I think all the HS cameras have that function, I know mine does

I also thought about the FH 20
I decided against it for the following reasons....
To big and bulky to carry around in the golf bag.
4 X AA batteries which didn't seem to last long.
9mp so not great quality
483g
Price....£150 more expensive than my FC150.

If I was buying one today, I'd be looking at the ZR300 or similar.....
Fits in small pockets
Lithium battery
HDMI connection
Full HD stereo movie
16mp
24 mm wide angle lens
165 g

All that in your budget

If you have an iphone 5s they work pretty well with a gorillapod tripod:

I was filmed using an Iphone 5s recently, my pro just wanted to see how good the slowmo & quality were, it was as good as the £500 camera originally bought for the job.

I bought a Casio one a couple years back and it was only 90 quid or something, got a wee tripod stand from aldi for it to sit on, has done the job mighty fine. Can't remember the exact model though
