Played in our Diamond Jubilee Stableford yesterday, slightly unusual format. Pairs, best point on each hole squared, so 2=4, 3=9, 4=16 etc. Was a Shotgun start, we were off from 16, playing our 3 nastiest holes first, the pair we were playing started 9,16, 9 versus our 1,4,4, thought we were dead and dusted by the time we reached the first but our net score finally racked up 1 bogey, 9 pars, 5 birdies and 3 eagles ...... for 127 points, or 46 points in real money, and we came 4th over all. Could possibly have won it if two more putts had sunk.....

We also had a £25K prize for the first hole in 1 on our 11th, no one got it, although I was pin high and only two foot out, alas was not to be ( I blame the recent scarification from stopping my ball rolling down into the cup - which it woul dhave done if the tram lines weren't in place:p). It was a good fun format, thoroughly enjoyed it and played some of my best golf this year, managed to shoot 3 under my handicap gross. And the rain stayed away until we finished.... Golf is good........

Also got to learn a small lesson, I checked our card after it was marked, tallied up the points and they were correct, signed and delivered, only to find we were one point off....our marker had squared our bogey to 2 (1x1) :). Whilst I'd checked the math was right, I hadn't checked the actual figures in place were right. Fortunately, not an official comp as such so no DQ, and since we didn't figure in the prizes (blimey, I'm talking prizes.....) didn't feel as bad as I would have if we had been right up there and then lost out due to my numptyness.....

Was a fun day yesterday.

Interesting format, really punishes 1 pointers but rewards 5 pointers!

Probably best played only once a year, did anyone bring a calculator?

Sounds interesting...

You can't get DQ'd for not adding up (or multoplying!) wrongly though.
All you are signing for is the gross scores on each hole.

Sounds like an official competition to me. Did you mean not a qualifier? It can still be an official competition without being a qualifier, and, as Region3 said, you can't be DQ'd for mathematical transgressions.

A similar kind of comp is American or Modified Stableford:
