Calling Murphthemog

Perhaps he is taking from a pure Physics point of view where there is no such thing as side spin just spin, the direction isnt important

No he definitely said sidespin. I remember. Not backspin. Not topspin. Sidespin. He said it didn't exist with a golf shot. He did. Honest Injun.
:D :D :D

There is side spin on golfballs unless you pure it everytime with a square face.
Its really quite simple.....

Good to know. I've jotted that equation away in the memory banks. Who knows when it'll come in handy.

So, is it possible to impart topspin on a golf ball with our usual clubs/swing? I don't think so personally.

Certainly is, the good old top. If you strike up from behind anywhere from the equator of the ball up to the top, its doable, bit like snooker.
The initial hit makes it go into the air then the topspin makes it duck like Frank Bruno.

That will be a thin then :D
Is a thin not different bob, closer to the middle than the bottom, not like a top which is middle upwards?

It is my understanding a thin is caused by a shallow angle of attack, striking the ball near the equator, sending the ball screaming about 4 feet off the ground.
A top is when the body gets too far ahead of the ball causing a steep angle of attack driving the ball downwards into the ground and bouncing down the fairway.
Just a wild guess mind you :D :D

Should you be commenting if you don't know for sure ?

Massive quote train approaching WOO WOO!! :D

Bob, I was stating regardless of where the club was coming from, purely on a contact point of view, dont confuse me with golf speak. :D

Anyone who's in my four ball tomorrow will see me put top spin, side spin, back spin and political spin on every shot!

That will be a joy to behold.
:D

I've pressed the white chinos by the way, and they will be matched with a very nice black Toyota polo.
Eat your heart out Donald Trump
