Sorry to hear that mate, whatever you do don`t go selling all your gear straight away. Who knows a month or a year down the line you might just get the urge back to hit the course. All the best in whatever pursuit you decide to take up.

Sorry to hear you feel this way,i hope you enjoy whatever you take up next.
Absence sometimes makes the heart grow fonder so hopefully you will return one day.Good luck

Still contemplating jacking it in for a bit too. Got some comps until the end of July and we'll go from there. Camberley and Blackmoor were fun and enjoyed meeting loads of old and new faces from here. but get fed up with the handicap climbing ever higher despite trying hard and putting the effort in

I'm glad for you that you've made the decision. Find a new interest and get on with your life. It's too short to torment yourself with things you don't enjoy.

As the guys above say, keep your gear for a while and maybe the game will appeal again at some point.

@Homer - take the pressure off yourself! I was disappointed recently that my handicap hasn't come down more in recent weeks until some eagle eyed forumer noted I've dropped 5 shots earlier this year. Just enjoy the game and the banter and worry not about the score!

I've came close to jacking it in this year a couple of times.

Every round seemed worse than the last. I played a lot and practised a lot. Had lessons. Done all the things I should do to improve, but just was getting worse all the time.

I took a few weeks break from the game. Tried all sorts.

But then all of a sudden I'll put a decent round together and get a glimpse of what I'm capable off and I'm re-invigorated again.

But the question I keep asking myself is all the pain and anguish worth the short lived highs ?

Christ reading that back I sound like a golf junky :(

ABSOLUTELY!

If you're fed up with it all then I don't blame you, but as someone else said I wouldn't go selling all your gear just yet.

My doubles partner was all for packing it up about 6 weeks ago as he couldn't hardly break 90 (15hc) and his long game was dreadful, but he's playing better than ever now without doing much different. Crazy game.

Good luck whatever you do instead.

I will never give up golf,i know at times its frustrating,i myself have had twenty .1s lately, but to me thats my challenge,to stop the slide.
Sometimes we put to much pressure on ourselves which usually has an adverse effect.
Most peoples advice is just enjoy it,and to an extent i agree.
But also enjoy the course, the scenery, the company, the banter and good scores will follow.

Do you think you'll ever come back to golf?

Obviously a very redundant question if you've left the forum, reading your first posts suggests you already have!

Good Luck!

I gave up playing 4 years ago, swore i'd never play again, then gave it another go 6 months later before knocking it on the head.Had a phone call from an old golfing buddy i hadn't seen for 5 years, decided to hit a few balls on the range and share a pint to catch up.I'm now hook line and sinkered again, just need to decide which local club is getting my money.

I know exactly where the original poster is coming from. I used to play to 5 but it has steadily crept up over the past few years.

The only reason my handicap is 7 is because I don't play many comps, it's just too much like hard work.

But then I see pictures of fantastic courses that I've either played or I'm still desperate to play and I know I'll never pack it in. Well not until the next round anyway.

Mate of mine used to be off seven. Then wife, kids, (seven), etc, and he has realised that golf is time off. No pressure, just time out. He really enjoys his golf now, and plays off 11. Doesn't give a stuff. Maybe he has it right.

All this talk of giving up is bad guys! :(

Golf is class, frustrating but great fun and top banter! :)

Stick with it everyone!! :) live the dream! :)

It's frustrating as I have a handicap that I can't play to anymore. It'll take years of playing comps to get it to the right figure.

By the way South Staffs is a pretty decent course, I used to play ther in the annual Wolverhampton school's championships. Peter Baker used to turn up and win every year.

Yeah he's still a legend! So down to earth and a great laugh on and off the course. He just won the PTS Invitational here the other week. He still hits it like a dream it's sick how good and clean the contact is!
The track is certainly in good condition ATM. :)

Was forced out of the game for almost 6 years due to injury/illness, now Im back fit and healthy (ish) cant see myself ever choosing to give it up, that said it can be so infuriating so I understand why some do

Best of luck with whatever you choose to spend your spare time on instead

Maybe as sone have said before on the forum that "we have found our level" instead of banging our heads against the wall we should accept it and enjoy the golf instead. It maybe extremely difficult to accept but surely playing and enjoying the game has to be more important than beating ourselves up over .1 rises?

I will shed a bit of light on why I'm calling it a day. I have been playing quite consistant rounds mid 80's off my H/C of 10. which I was more than happy with. I just started to get fed up and bored with the game.Everything seemed like a chore. I used to love going down the range to practise. I even got a years range membership to try to kick start me. I nearly quit early in the year but got talked round to carrying on. This wasnt a good idea because it made me feel like I was playing just to please those who made me carry on. I've got few things that I would like to look into to waste away saturdays & sundays.

Cheers all DTM
