We had the Callaway Diablo irons back from our photographer today and after everyone had the obligatory waggle we took some pics

http://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/equipment/...ron-images.html

I'm not a massive Callaway fan but have to say these are good looking irons. The one thing we found a bit odd is that the driver, fairway and rescue are all wacky looking (I thought Homer was going to have a funny turn when he saw them in our gear cupboard) these are pretty straight looking for a shallowish cavity back and apparently Callaway are keen to get soem of their tour staff into them

Re: Callaway Diabolo irons

Remind me of the Wilson Staff Di7-9.

Tour players? Can only see this as a 2 or 3 iron.

Not a big fan of the looks, too much going on for me.

Whats the price on them?

Much better looking than the woods. What market are Callaway targeting with these. Obviously the X22 is aimed (although not exclusive to) the higher handicapper and I presume the tour version would favour the mid/low players (and I know a few club pros who use them). Obviously they have their forged irons for the real top dogs so I'm unsure where these fit in

Dont like them at all, Certainly dont look like players irons do they, then again, how many guys on tour are now using cavity backs because they are so workable nowadays.

What stock shafts are in them mike? True tempers?

Are they still doing the 'uniflex' shaft?

These look to me in between the 22 tours and the x forged

Maybe its the picture but they seem to have a slightly smaller head to the 22 tours which is nice, they put tour of those even though they have a similar look down to my girlfriends old Cobra Fp's

not sure on the RRP I'm afraid - will have to look when I'm back in the office
shafts in the set we were sent were Nippon NS Pros

ooh Nippons. I actually wouldn't mind trying them with Nippon shafts in.

How did you get on with them Mike?

What is it with the loud, over the top decals on this year's releases. To me they seem to be trying too hard to look 'hip'

Tony - None of the boys have hit them yet - Paul O'H is testing them this weekend

HJS - we're playing a friendly couple of fourballs with 4 guys from Ping at Walton Heath tomorrow. I have had rank bad weather the last three times I have been there so just praying the weather is a forecast and I stay out of the heather!

From the top, they don't look that bad for Cally. I would guess they will be a nice set of irons. Not for me, but I would say they will be players irons rather than GI. Small offset, not too heavy top line. Ok. But not great.

Just don't look round the back.

RRp is £899 graphite and £749 steel.

A bit steep if you ask me when there are better looking and probably equally good performing clubs around for a lot less.

On the other hand, Cally have made a living out of selling over priced kit, so why not try it on? Cally Fusion are a prime example.

Why are their X forged blades over the £1000 mark? When you can get a set of forged Mizzys for 450 odd.

I always feel they cater for the all the gear/no idea brigade as a priority, rather than the average golfer who they claim is their market.
