Did you take half the mat with it? I almost done the same thing trying to hit it the 'normal' way!! I use that term loosely as I believe it's whatever's comfortable to each individual
no it was a clean strike, I put it down to the left hand at bottom with strong grip and stopping the follow through short and too much loading on the shaft!
