Are there any forum members on this board that are happy with the standard of sand in the bunkers at their club? Played a few interclub friendlies recently and every member of different clubs that I had the pleasure of having a round with complained about the bunkers at their club.

Are good "consistent" bunkers the holy grail for club members?

Our club is doing a lot of work on the bunkers especially the amount of sand in them. The problem is some are done and others aren't and so there is still a lack of consistency in the depth. I think once its finished we're have nothing to complain about as they are kept pretty well now and the problems we had with stones seems to be going away

I suppose you could answer with the statement we shouldn't go in them in the first place:lol: but ours can be hit and miss....
I know from talking with lads in the club that the type of sand needed aint cheap and as far as i know it comes from a different part of the country over here to where our course is....

Couple that with a skeleton green staff and minimal resources and its just a mess....
Although i have to say that this season they are not too bad....

One thing that kills our place is the rain...If it rains heavy on saturdays there is a good chance that the bunkers will be like concrete for the sunday comps and they'll even have valley's running through them:rolleyes:

Bunkers are fine at Muckhart. They sorted them out during the winter and have done a bang-on job. Found a notoriously bad one in the twilight medal last night and was pleasantly surprised by the revised quality. Was quite happy to play out of it.

The worst thing about my club is the bunkers.

Main problems are: Differing sand depths, players not raking, staff not turning them etc.

Ok fair enough, a lot of it is down to climate and they appear to be baked solid at times, it's easy enough to notice when your shoes aren't even leaving a print on the surface.... Then you get the staff - why have the sprinkler for the green aiming at the bunker? It's downright stupid. Why aren't they out there first thing getting them all turned up a little bit, actually giving people a chance.

If they could get the bunkers playing consistently at least, the membership would be a lot happier. This time of the year it is almost impossible to play a proper bunkershot.

Sand should punish handicap golfers, certainly at my level, by a shot. But when it's taking 2 shots to get out of each one, it does become a little frustrating.

Bunker conditioning gets my goat. How hard can it be to bung in the same amount of sand, and rake it about? Half ours have no sand, and half have the worlds supply.

The best I have played out of were at The Belfry. Awesome. So easy to splash out of, and get a bit of action. Almost not like a hazard at all. I assume this is more like the bunkers the pro's play out of. No wonder they are so good.

No wonder we are so bad.

Ours are pretty average. When you go to a "top" course and play out of those bunkers, the difference is like night and day. The ones at Woburn were a joy to play out of.

Some bunkers are uneven because those members who do rake them, some rake all the sand towards the edge/back of the bunker leaving little in the middle

In answer NO
Our bunkers are Very inconsistent, in both levels of sand, and type of sand
There are 2 - 3 different types of sand in our bunkers, u have to try and adjust your thoughts when in some, its NO Fun
