I'm possibly the last person on here to realise that I've been ripped off by BT.

I'd seen the recent adverts from BT with their special offers for phone and broadband that were a lot cheaper than I have been paying so thought I would do a bit of digging.

From paying just over £30 a month with BT for phone with free weekend calls and b/band with 10gb limit, I could get a similar or possibly better deal with a few alternative suppliers for just under £20 with free evening and weekend calls + unlimited gb. So I rang BT (ask for a MAC code option) and they couldn't have been more helpful.

Pay £120 up front for 12 month line rental (£10 a month instead of £13.75) and "upgrade" to Option 2 broadband from Option 1 so now getting it for £7 LESS a month with a 40gb limit.

One phone call is hopefully going to save me about £120 in the next year with a better deal on phone and broadband.

I did ask why I hadn't been informed of this better deal as I was a long standing customer and was told that they were so busy dealing with calls such as mine that they didn't have time to inform customers of what was available. It's not often that I'm lost for words!!!!!

Check their site for the best deals and you won't find this advertised.

BT are no better than insurance companies.

I really wanted to change suppliers but the best deal I could get was about £2 a month cheaper with unlimited broadband usage (I've not used up more than about 6/7gb a month yet so not a deciding factor) so for the sake of £24 a year I've decided to stay with them to avoid any hassle there might be in changing and there is only one company I have to deal with in case of problems.

interesting, I'm saving a lot more than £7 pm on switching to SKY (plus no capped broadband), I was £26 a month just for BB with BT then line rentals and calls on top. A tenner with Sky (£15 less a fiver for taking phone as well) and no capping and free calls starting with 01.

To answer your comment, no your not the last and they dont say till asked, why would they, its a business.

Same as you darth, went from by to sky and saved around 15 a month on that alone, unlimited and usual free calls etc in the evening, phone them up occasionally giving off about their prices and get a lower rate for another three months at a time.

I know there's been bad press about Talk Talk but I have had no problems with them at all. Under £12 pm gets me unlimited BB and free evening and weekend calls. Had a line problem one day, phoned up and logged the issue, fixed within 24 hours. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones?

Don't get me started on BT...

I get free bband as a BT employee, still pay the line rental though grrr

I also have a 2nd line with sky and bband and its faster than BT by 3 mb!!! work that one out, same exchange, same cabling yet 3mb faster

if I didnt get the free bband I would just stay sky as never had a problem since day one whereas my BT router drops out randomly :(

The whole phone and broadband market is a mess.

I keep seeing "offers" about this and that, and it amazes me that it's actually legal to advertise a package without including the line rental in the price. It's always in the flippin small print.

Everyone pays line rental, so for example a £20 BB and free calls package will also incur about £10 for the line rental....making it "mysteriously" £30 per month.

BT are offering a deal with activation fees and discounted period and £18 p/m and line rental (guessing £10) and the kitchen sink.....I mean - how is anyone supposed to work it out?

There should be just ONE price. The COMPLETE cost. It's not hard.
