Hi Kevin, another set of beautiful photographs thank you.

I played Tain, Dornoch and Golspie along with Boat on the way home in September, loved it. My plan is to head to Brora next year with Dornoch and a few others as well. Its an area I'm smitten by now.

We had a couple of beers and then went for an Indian with a couple of Americans we bumped into in Dornoch. They were just back from Brora and raved about it. They said it was better than Nairn and Moray Old. I haven't played Brora so what are your thoughts? Greens were tremendous at Brora according to the two gents.

Greens were, in a word, incredible. It was November 1st and they were absolutely perfect. I'd say Royal Dornoch's and Brora's (and Royal County Down's) are the best greens I've played on this year.

I've not played Moray Old, but I wasn't as blown away by Nairn as I was by Brora and RD. Both are more colourful and shapely than Nairn... which I think is more about the subtleties and the strategy of holes.

Royal Dornoch was 120 and I think from memory Nairn wanted the same. There is only ever going to be one winner there!!!

Brora has just been added onto next years list plus Reay looks interesting.

If my memory serves me right you played Nairn Mid/late November off the short winter course, not the condidions to judge any course TBH

Yep. It was Nov 2011. No issues with the tees/length... it reminds me a bit of Portmarnock in that it's quite level terrain and the golf is all about the strategy and using your head. Not the sort of place to 'grip and rip'. Positioning is all. Probably why I prefer Brora - I get away with my 'draw'.

Oh I'm definitely saying Carne and Enniscrone. In my top 5 and sheer adventure from start to finish. Be sure to play the new/third nine at Carne. Have you seen my photos... or check out the video here. I love Dooks and, quite possibly, the best greens in Ireland (I've been told time and again). Dingle is well behind those three (IMO). If you can afford Waterville, then Dooks and Waterville are an excellent combination... and Kerry is great craic. Then again, so is the west.

Have you heard about the Atlantic Coast Challenge? €125 to play Carne, Co Sligo and Enniscrone. At the start of July... but rounds are very slow.

.

Thing is though you played the course not at its best off tee's that are almost 1500 shorter, with 4 of the risk reward par 4's little more than short par 3's so i don't thing in those conditions you can judge the course.... any course

Cheers Kevin, we saw that advertised when we played at Sligo in September, its a cracking deal but we like to play social golf when on holiday as we play enough competitive golf all year. We had thought of playing Tralee as well as Dooks and Dingle a bit of a drive but it looks superb

I appreciate from your signature that your a mamber of Nairn however please accept that people have opinions. These two American gentlemen raved and raved about how good Brora was. I've played Nairn about seven years ago and wasn't "wowed" by it. Its a nice course in a lovely location. Some nice holes but not on the same level as Royal Dornoch or even Castle Stuart.

Maybe I just prefer my links with a bit of undulation and variety, that's just my personal opinion and preference.

For your information I've included a link to your fees for next year.

yes maybe next year but not this year. it appear to have bee in your bonnet about Nairn, no one is saying its better than Dornoch, i would even agree with that Dornoch is far better. But as you have not even played Brora, you cannot say its better than Nairn. the front 9 is pretty good, but its almost impossible to lose a ball and has a few nothing holes,

I never did my friend I asked the person who started the thread if he agreed with what two American gents I met in Dornoch a couple of months back that Brora was better than another two courses. A bee in my bonnet? I was complimentary about Nairn being nice???

Tralee is something else, for sure, but so is nearly every links on the south west and west coast.

As for the Atlantic Coast Challenge - I've played it every year and don't play it as a competition. I have a mate who comes back from New York for it and we just use it as a few days of golfing away. There's a great buzz around the hotels and bars too. The slow rounds are the the only downside.

you have made a comment about Nairn in a number of other threads, which needed no comment about it. you stated you have played the course about 7 years ago and that it was about the same cost as Dornoch, its never been the same as there and certainly not 7 years ago, when it was £70. We have not had our AGM yet so no fee's are set and as for the increase, I'm led to believe by the person who runs the marketing group for RD,CS and N, and it was decided by all 3 that N should raise to be in line with the other two, but still slightly less.

TBH the costs for all 3 are way to high, CS wanting £170 is nuts, its not worth that, Dornoch is also on the high side and i don't think Nairn should charge more than £90.... est with all the other courses nearby at no more than £60

Technically, good photo's but the course itself looks uninteresting. Not impressed with the boxy clubhouse.

I'd agree about the clubhouse... but then who goes to a golf course for the clubhouse. It's nice inside having said that, and gives a good view over the 18th green and 1st tee from the bar.

As for the course, 'uninteresting' is not a word I would use to describe it. It's often difficult to get across the shapes of the holes in photographs, but there is a lot of movement to fairways and around greens. You'll find it a lot more interesting when you play it, believe me. Green fee is £55

Jeeebus!

Can you please point out any thread or post where I have been derogatory towards Nairn Golf Club? I've never mentioned Nairn until this thread.

Now where you may be taking the hump is with me saying that Royal Dornoch is without doubt the best course in the Highlands. However given that even the weird and wonderful Golf Monthly ratings agree with that as do Today's Golfer and the Top 100 Courses in Scotland I would suggest that I am justified in that opinion. Even you agreed with that last night!

I also did not say 7 years ago it was the same price. I said I priced Nairn and Dornoch this year and the price was in the same ball park.

What I don't understand is your constant attack when someone mentions Nairn?? You sent me a filthy PM slating the OP accusing him of all sorts! (I can copy and paste this no problem.) Is this because he also happened to mention he wasn't overly impressed with your home course? I said Nairn was nice in a beautiful location yet you still come back and attack me??? I just don't get this attitude and aggression. I am entitled to my opinion as are you, as are the two Americans as is Kevin.

If in the area I would not pay what Nairn want as a green fee. IN MY OPINION it's not worth it. IN MY OPINION Royal Dornoch is. That is my genuine personal opinion. Also if Nairn 2016 prices have not been agreed why are they on your website? I've just emailed your secretary to confirm prices. I will post his/her reply so that you know for certain.

Finally I will agree the fee for Castle Stuart is too steep.

I'm just standing up for my home course, a course i love. I'm sure you would do the same for your club, where do you play by the way?

No idea why the prices are on there, the AGM is not till 10th Dec and nothing is set until the members agree it. They tried to put the fee up a couple of years ago to £115 and that was scrapped.

As for the PM, feel free to search though the old treads when the orig review was done all that i put in there where raised at the time.
