After just recently getting into this game I've found it really difficult in competitions. Over the winter I went away and got some lessons and I noticed the differance straight away.

My 1st two medals of the year didn't go quite as I had planned putting in scores of 104 and then 103. Small improvement but still left me frustrated.

I've been off work all this week so took the opportunity to not only practise a bit but also play our Wednesday medal.

I started poorly with two seven's and almost conceded defeat however the next 14 holes I played as if it was just a casual knock. Long story short I was not only going to play better than handicap I was on course to smash it. Until I hit 17 where I got plugged in a bunker and was forced to play out from the side. I then stumbled over the line with another double at the last but I finished the day on 93 gross 67 nett. Delighted with the score but I was two holes away from breaking 100 and 90 all at the same time.

I'm unsure if my score was enough to finish on top as HDID or my club hasn't had the results published nor the weekends medal. However I'm delighted to get what I hope is the 1st of many cuts this season.

Congrats sounds good, maybe the dodgy start helped relax you and allowed you to play how you can, and the benefits of the hard work paid off.
Onwards and downwards sub 90 next. Well played.

sometimes a bad start is a good thing, it takes the pressure off and as a high handicapper myself we tend to just enjoy it. By 17 you probably knew you had turned it round and maybe put a little extra pressure on yourself. Well done for smashing 100, 90 next which probably wont be too far away

Congrats mate. I finally broke 90 this wk,shot 42 on front 9 then the wheels fell off a bit on back 9. Just manged it with a 4 on 18 :whoo:

Thanks guys.

When I swapped cards on the 1st tee I clocked the guy was off 2 but he was great company and it did feel as if it was a bounce game. Hopefully I can carry the confidence into the next few rounds.

Well done! No better feeling than reaching your targets.

I am a firm beleiver in a bad start not being a bad thing. At my course the 1st is one of the hardest hole's, so if you get a good start the confidence rises and you start to think you can just stroll the next few holes. Which 9 times out of 10 is not the case. Scrape past with a bogey or even a double and you breath a sigh of releif that the hole is past and focus on getting those shots back.
