Hi All,

Going to be in Brighton for a few days at the beginning of September and would really welcome any advice on the courses in the area as I am looking to play at least once when I am there.

thanks

Che

The Dyke is the only one in/around Brighton I would bother with.

Outside of Brighton but probably within 20-30 mins drive; Piltdown, East Sussex National.

More like 1 hour:
Littlehampton, Crowborough Beacon, Royal Ashdown Forest

More for the views rather than the actual course (although the course isn't terrible).... Seaford Head is where I play during winter .

I like East Brighton and depending on where in Brighton you are, Lewes won't be too far away either. Seaford Head is a little further, but worth it for the views.

East Brighton, The Dyke both super close. Further afield Lewes (which I played last week and is excellent condition given the weather recently), Pyecombe up the a23. Then Seaford Head along the coast for simply the greatest 18th tee shot you'll hit in the south east, if not England!

More "upmarket" you've got Crowborough Beacon and Piltdown both c. 45 mins away, alongside East Sussex National and Royal Ashdown Forest just under an hour away.

I'm only up the road in Tunbridge Wells, so if you'd like a PP for your round do shout - if I'm about I'd happily join you at any of the above.

Big lover of seaford head although I’m not sure how it would have held up in the heat. It wouldn’t surprise me if you were driving 400yds+ down the 18th.

Think the question is more about where near Brighton you are staying and how far you’d be prepared to travel.

Thanks all, some really good options.

We are going to be staying 5 minutes from East Brighton so I think we may be able to slide in two rounds now - Thursday afternoon there and another on the Friday :)
As we are on that side of Brighton it may well be Seaford Head on the Friday

We are going to be arriving on 1st and may get a few holes in somewhere then and definitely a full 18 on Friday 2nd. Some extra company would be very welcome if you or anyone else is around and we can arrange it.
My 19 year old son will also be playing so some room available (y)

As others have said, East Brighton is a good track and always in very good condition. If it's windy, you'll need an anchor, but other than that it's all good.
Seaford head is "ok" but if I was in the area I'd much rather play Seaford (Blatchington). A bit more expensive, but a considerably better experience.
Just checked and the green fee at Seaford Head is £30.00 Blatchington £40.00. No contest.
The only thing worthy of note at Seaford Head is the drive at 18. Other than that, a right mish mash of holes.
So this is my recommendation...

Seaford Head isn't just the 18th - I'd argue that the view on 13, and the way in which it reveals itself, is one of the greatest sights on this planet and I'm not exaggerating.

It isn't the best course, but it's not a bad one either and it is very memorable.

Hmmmm. I've never look at it that way. And now you mention it, I still don't...:unsure::unsure:

I can't see the appeal to be honest. I've played the course loads of times, and in all write ups and reviews of the place the one thing everybody mentions is the drive at 18.
If you asked 30 people that had played there to mention one thing about the course, I bet all of them would mention the drive down 18.
Go to East Brighton and the drive at the par 5 5th is very similar, albeit not quite so elevated. But it's an inspiring drive nonetheless.
Golf courses and our opinions of them are very personal. I just don't find Seaford Head in the least bit inspiring, apart from maybe the drive at 18.

Heart attack hill, the first par 3 in autumn than can play into a 3 club wind, the dogleg par 4 that follows, pre heart attack hill the elevated tee into the stepped shallow green on the short p4, nope I can’t remember anything really.

Put golf to one side completely. The view from the 13th fairway is incredible. So much so that half the people who are walking the pathway alongside the cliffs towards it are foreign tourists.

It is a very British thing to not appreciate the beauty on our doorstep and I genuinely feel a bit sorry for you if you don't realise just what a sight the Sisters are :(

It's a good view I'll grant you. But to refer to it as one of the "greatest sights on this planet" is taking it a bit too far don't you think??
I mean, it's hardly the Taj Mahal, The Pyramids or Liz Hurley in "that" dress.
I'll stand by what I said, Blatchington is a better golf course than Seaford Head and well worth the extra tenner green fee. Even without the Pointer, sorry Seven Sisters.
;););)
