Just wondering how many of you have been successful off the yellows here – failed twice but managed to get on the green for two on the 18th which is a massive deal for a lowly 28 HC!

Shot a 97 on the PGA and 109 on the Brabazon, both of which are >700 yards longer than my home course, so hopefully a cut is near!

Overall a cracking weekend, which Id definitely go back for - engraved bag tag a lovely touch I thought

Yeah I've been on ... I hit a second ball to prove that the first one wasn't luck and that one made a splash! :fore:

It's not so much the disatnce it's your line of entry, it suits a gay fade :whoo:

I always fade a driver until that hole. I suddenly hit my only draw and ended up under a bush!

The 18th, however, I hit a 3 wood off the tee to roughly where the marker plate is and my second to about 10ft. I lipped the birdie putt for a good par.

Hit first one in the water and laid up with 2nd ball only to duff wedge in water anyway!! Eeyore!!

Made regulation par on 18 though :-) about the only good thing i did all round!

I had a good score going when I played there so chickened out and layed up. But it was a very quiet day, so I hit another ball just to see and, typically, stuck that one on the green.

Just to rub salt in to the wound I then duffed my 80 yarder into the pond and made double.

I did make 18 in 2 and walked off with a par there so that made up for it a bit.

Played it twice and haven't bothered on either occasion.

Had a good card going on both occasions so let it be.

My mates had a go and one of them stuck it on. The other two required a wetsuit.

Ash!!

I've never got anywhere near the green off the tee on the 10th, but I did par the 18th. against a howling gale in my face. I clearly couldn't carry the water off the tee against the wind, so I laid up short of it with a 9 iron, then played a fairway wood into prime position for a decent 5 iron into the green and holed the putt. Nice!

I thought the Brabazon and PGA had a max 24hcp policy. Is this just words and not enforced?

Says that on website when I played starter on asked handicap for which tee to use. Don't think there to fussed at moment been offering society rate of £60 think the financial problems they are having are beginning to bite.

Played the Brabazon a fair few times and every time I have gone for the 10th (twice) have managed to hit the green on both occasions. The first was with a driver and put it over the back near the little boat house. The second was with a 3 wood as the yellows were pushed up a bit and was playing only about 240 to the front. Breeze was helping and it was a hot day so was a bit easier and ended up beyond the pin towards back right. Made birdie both times which was nice!

Played it a couple of times. Donated a ball on each occasion. However played three off the tee the second time, laid up and hit the approach to 4 feet and holed the putt to rescue a five. I didn't think eighteen was actually that tricky and parred it

To be fair I think the 24hc is aimed at stopping the corporate jolly first timers from hacking up the place.
Me and my 21 hc played off yellows was respectful to the course, repaired at least two pitch marks each per green (something I think everybody should do) and kept up with play
On the PGA we finished 14 mins ahead of schedule every being held up by a two ball in a cart and 50 mins on the brabazon on Monday. Although the course was long for
Me didn't have any issues - wasn't asked for hc proof so go for it if
You want to play it I'd say

Only played the Brabazon once, I was playing quite well so wimped out and laid up on the 10th and made easy par.

Reached the 18th in two without a problem apart from pin on bottom tier & my ball on top, 3 putts ensued!!

I played the 10th in the winter so it was well out of reach for me.
I hit a reasonable 4 iron to give myself a full 9 iron/wedge shot in [I thought] ended up hitting a full 7 iron which I pulled left of the burn then fluffed it into the burn. Not my finest moment.

Played it yesterday, went for it and hit an almost perfect shot into it. Hit a nice high fade onto the green dead on line, only bad point was that due to hitting that type of shot it didnt roll out it landed and stopped within a yard about 12ft short of the hole, missed the eagle by a few inches but got the birdie so was very happy. I loved the course in all though, reallly set up for match play many risk reward holes, condition was lovely, would love to play it every week, next time I would like to play off the whites to offer different strategies.

really don't understand why people think 'not going for the green in one' is wimping out here - the pro's go for it because they are comfortable that they WILL make 4 even if they go in the water off the tee; ie it's a 2 or 4. If you are looking at 3 or 5 it would seem to make sense to hit the 6 iron...
