I Have an Arston combi boiler. Not sure of the model but it says micro genus on the service book that came with it?

We've just noticed that the water pressure gauge is reading about 3.3 bar when there's a red line at 3.0!

Do I need to worry about it, and is it an easy thing to release some pressure?

A couple of pics below if that helps, thanks in advance for any advice.

It's nothing to be too concerned about, if the pressure gets too high it will overflow through the little copper pipe that sticks out of the wall.

You could bleed the radiators to take a bit of air/pressure out and make sure the filling loop is closed.

Thanks Stuart. Should it not already be overflowing though since its above the red line?

Is the filling loop the braided pipe inbetween the two black taps in the second picture? Both taps are Pointing straight at the wall.

Panic over. Sort of.

The missus had gone into full blown panic mode so I drained a rad a little bit.
The pressure went down to 2 but has gone back up to 2.2 now. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks again Stuart.

Yes mate that's the filling loop.

Any more probs give us a shout.

Gary, check how much pressure increase there is from a cold start to hot (70-80*c) if your getting an increase of over 1bar the expansion vessel may need recharging or at worst replacing.
seems odd that your getting excess pressure, unless the valves on the filling loop are passing.

Typical - these things come along like buses

No hot water today :(. we have excellent central heating so boiler obviously working. We have a Combi, 10 years old from new.

Run hot water tap and you get warm the hot water for about 5 seconds the. It goes freezing

Any suggestions ? we don't have any pressure gauges etc to look at

Thanks in advance

Possibly a mixer valve for the hot/cold that prevents scalding being full of limescale or just need tweaking to get the right temp again.

Good afternoon Sev,

Does your boiler need to be reset when your hw goes off?

It sounds like either a faulty thermistor(hw stat inside boiler) or the dhw plate heat exchanger.

Stu. The last radiator in the house only gets warm at the top and is stone cold at the bottom. Any ideas ?

Happy to let you fix ity when you are down for next years H4H.:)

Haha, it's nice to know I'm welcome back next year!

It sounds like there's either a bit of debris in the rad or the system needs to be balanced.

Best way to check is to turn the radiators off except the last one and if it gets hot fully then the system needs balancing.

If it doesn't them it may need to be flushed out.

British Gas did a very good job, albeit helped by my diagnostic experiences :)
Turns out it was a switch that tells the pump to start again . Easily replaced once he'd located a spare part, and now mrs sev112 and daughter can have a shower (me, I'll wait for my annual bath on Xmas Day :). )

Amazing that a week ago mrs sev112 was querying why we pay BG each year for servicing - sometimes it just works out well.
