Bogey comp

We have a "Wilson Bogey" every year.

It's basically match play against the course with your handicap taken into account (or stableford if you like!).

For example Par 4 with 1 shot given, you score a 5, this means the hole is All Square.

You then total up at the end on a + or - basis.

Hope that makes sense, I'm never any good at explaining these things!

you score either +1, 0 or -1 on each hole. Net par scores 0, net birdie or better scores -1, net bogey or worse socres +1, its basically matchplay against the card (on a net basis). OBviously a + score at the end is good, a - score not so, 0 in effect equates to playing to your handicap

Yeah it does, a little like matchplay against yourself.

Thanks gents

Hi Parmo. A bogey comp is you against the course in a matchplay game. If you win the hole eg a birdie, then you get a +, if you lose the hole eg bogey you get a -, and if you half the hole you get a 0.

At the end of the round you count up the plusses, take away the minusses and that is your score. For example if you have 7 plusses 3 minusses and 8 zeros you score would come out as +4, which would be quite a good score most days. You could of course finish 0 or a minus number which would be unlikely to win.

When we play it (only once a year)I think we normally get full h/cap allowance

Clear as mud?

If you are prone to a couple of major blow outs, bogey can be a good game.

If you are prone to eagling stroke index 1, with a shot, you will get frustrated with only getting a plus on the card instead of 5 stableford points.

A winning score will be around plus 7.
