I feel I get best of both worlds with my 52s. They look as good as a blade behind the ball well the 4 iron looks scary and I get a forgiving club also. Not as forgiving as my x20s but a he'll of alot better to play with. I have played with blades and they ain't that bad when your striking well. Have an off day and it's like trying to tame a wild lion with water ballons.

Hi There,
When i was at school in the late 70's early 80's,(about 14,15 ish) i used to borrow my dads clubs to go on the local park with my mates, he had Forged peter aliss slazenger blades, i wasnt into golf but loved to go with my mates and smash the crap out of a ball for a laugh, just basically seeing how far i could hit it.anyway, 20 years on, my workmate finally persuaded me to go for a game with him on his course. i went.. i was hooked.. i bought some Ping G5's when they first came out, joined a club and away i went. after a while (a couple of years) i had a handicap of 18, i started thinking if theese G5'S were so easy to hit would i be able to hit anything else? I went to visit my parents who now live in Scotland, when i was there i went into the loft and what did i find... my Dads old Slazengers, i got them down and took a 5 iron onto the field next to the house... all i can say is what i felt when hitting the ball was amazing, the ball flight was slightly lower than my G5's but the flight was so penetrating and true, the feeling off the face when i was hitting them was superb. i was overjoyed.Unfortunately a couple of the clubs were a bit too knackered to use so i decided to save up for a set of blades of my own, i decided on Mizuno MP67'S and i have to say they are they most gorgeous golf club i have ever seen or swung.. anyway, to cut a long story short, 6 months after buying them, im now consistantly shooting high 70's. i guess what im saying is that you shouldnt pay any heed to people that say your not good enough to use them.. go and try for yourself, you may be pleasently surprised as i was.

I think I got away with my blades for so long because I am a terrible iron player. I only use the toe, the bottom edge, and the shank of any iron, so the size of the sweet spot is irrelevant.

My ZBs have semi cured this, but I put this down to them being c/f'ed (not trying to start a c/f arguement, but having them the correct length makes a big difference)

I've had mp33 & mp37 and to be fair they were great clubs
but on bad swing days they could be a right hand full.
If I'd not played or been to the range for a week or so they seemed to punishing me for neglecting them..you need to keep on their good side.

I say.....go and get a set!! Don't wait....this country needs folk to spend money to stop deflation.....apparently....

I look forward to hearing how successfully they go.

I had a set, the good shots were sweeter than a sweet thing smeared in honey with choccy sprinkles.

The bad ones were a HUGE disaster. If you enjoy humiliating yourself coming up 25 yards short when everyone else is more or less pin high after a dodgy shot....go for it.

Blades are like Alfa Romeos.....your heart says yes but your brain knows better....

SOME players are lucky enough to have the skill to hit the ball out the middle more often than not, these guys might play off 2 or 22, depends on consistency of direction. If this is you, go for it!!
If this isn't you....don't do it.

I dont think I remember anyone saying someones not good enough to use them???????

The common factors surrounding bladed clubs are that the najority of golfers would struggle to play well with them.
Your claim is a rave about a set of clubs you do not use followed by a promotion of a bladed modern club (that is far more advanced than the old blades) along with this you have a playing standard in the high 70s! Give your blades to someone who has just started or someone with high h/c who currently struggles with clubs with a more forgiving strike and maybe you would have a different opinion.

It is true that some people can take to bladed clubs like a duck to water, but the majority dont and have to spend an awful long time getting used to them and sometimes never, when all the time they could improve their game with more forgiving clubs before venturing off with blades.

Many years ago at my club we had a very old retired Army Major as a member. The nicest guy you could ever think of meeting. He didn't carry woods. He carried a razor sharp 1 iron. His swing speed can't have been more than 75mph but this 1 iron would go 200 yards off the tee - every time bullet straight. He didn't carry 3, 4, or 5 irons either. That 1 iron came out and planted the ball another 180 off the ground. Then he chipped and putted for par - mostly.

I tried this 1 iron when I was hitting the ball very sweetly and it went sideways.
