Looks like the youth will be up there in a few weeks time playing against Teeside - it's a Sunday which means I'll potentially be missing out on a medal at my home club if I take the driving duties.

Any of you guys local to the area able to comment if it's worth playing? I'll throw my clubs in and look to get out between the morning and afternoon sessions the lads play if it's a decent enough track, or maybe there are other courses in the area that would be worth a visit while I'm up that way.

Always absolutely rammed in my experience. Personally not a big fan of the course. Rockliffe Hall is 2 minutes away and really the only course in the immediate area worth a knock.

I'd second that. Very decent club and course. Well worth playing if you are in the area.
That's good to know.
I'm going up to the North East with a few mates in a couple of weeks and might need an extra course in the itinerary depending on how things pan out. Sounds like it might fit the bill.

It's not a top 100 course but it's very enjoyable. You wouldn't build your trip around it but as a second or third day course it's a good option 👍. I'd happily play it again.

Sounds perfect. We have Seaton Carew as no1, and hartlepool as no 2. Sometimes you just need somewhere for a quick 9 or 12 holes to fill up a couple of hours.

I remember the old Blackwell Grange course across the road. A bit short, very tight and with 6(?) par 3’s. Apart from a few holes, you could leave the driver in the bag.

The new Blackwell Grange was a municipal called Stressholme golf club. It was sold to Blackwell when Blackwell sold their land off to developers, probably around 10 years ago.

I’ve not played Stressholme for close on 40 years - it was almost new back then. It was a bit bland, but to be fair the majority of the trees were just saplings back then. I dare say that the investment from Blackwell will have improved things.

Edit; Darlington golf club was, or maybe still is, known as Haughton Grange. I remember playing there in May ‘89. The course was flooded following a massive downpour/storm. As 8 of us were walking in there was a brief sensation of hair standing on end, and before you processed it - BOOM - and all of us were laid out.

I’d go further north and play dunstanburgh, possibly staying over at foxton and play foxton and alnmouth village 9 holer in one day. You’ve also got bamburgh castle around there too as well as goswick toward the border but Goswick is an open qualifier so worth building it into the middle of a trip if staying in and around Northumberland.
