Went to the only big driving range near me today to try and get myself a 3 wood. Having learnt from the past I wanted to try and hit a few first before taking the plunge, I still have no idea what shaft I need. My regular superfast driver is hard to hit, it seems to lack power (may be down to swing :D) but my stiff TM rescue goes like a dream, so I have no idea.

So i arrived and the staff were useless, quite stuck up and never helped at all. I'm a lefty, and the only left handed 3 woods they had were the r11, superfast 2.0 and a titleist.

Got the superfast taped up and had a hit, it went quite well to be fair but I would of liked a hit with the stiff shaft but they never had any, the selection was poor for a lefty. The range doesn't have any swing speed measuring gun/machine.

So i'm a bit lost what to do, I basically need to order of the net but I don't want to buy blind, I want to have a decent idea what its going to hit like, and as for the swing speed and shaft I really need to find that out, is there any other way? or does anyone in the Merseyside region know any good places I could go? I live on the Wirral but don't mind traveling an hour/ hour half, could even do greater Manchester.

I know that sounds a lot of waffle, but I just don't want to buy the wrong club, and it seems i'm going to struggle finding left handed clubs to try out

My brother and 2 others I golf with are left handed and you are going to have problems finding clubs to try. DG in Cambridge is great but even their left handed selection is almost non existent.Best bet is a manufacturer club fittng I suspect as it is hard to find left handed clubs to try in any shop

hi bluenosegolfer
was the range you went to the direct golf in morton?
i've been there and found the staff pretty useless
the rainford golf superstore (just off the east lancs) has a good fitting bay with all the swing speed gizmos, don't know what their lefty selection is like though.
another place i've heard great reviews about is tourx golf in warrington, there you can get fitted, try loads of different clubs, shafts etc and they make your club right there in front of you. the guy who runs it nick hibbs used to work for adams on the european tour.
i think you get about an hour on the trackman doing the fitting and it costs 50 quid.
clubhouse golf in salford is meant to be good as well, there you get the cost of the fitting deducted from the club you buy.
good luck, let us know how you get on

Yeah I know :( had my eye on some burner 2.0's to upgrade my irons, but I've realised the chances of getting a hit before buying is slim

They were one of the few clubs my brother could try. He was fitted for a set of Burner 2.0 irons at DG in Cambridge

Maybe worth emailing a few manufacturers, see if they have any demo days in your area and ask them if tey can make sure they have some lefty clubs on those days

Why not speak to a club pro. You can usually get some pretty good and impartial advice. I like the idea of going to a demo day so have a look online and see who is in the area. They are a great place to try gear and they usually have a couple of specs of each model

Excellent that's exactly what i was looking for, cheers I'll look into them!

Yeah you guessed right about the DG :D I know a few people who don't like it up there

I hear very good things about Clays in Wrexham, which isn't too far from you. I've not been there myself yet, but have spoken to a few people who rate it. They are a Mizuno national fitting centre, but they do loads of other brands too. I'll probably be going there for my next fitting session.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but would a good golf range not sell some Left-handed clubs?

Go and try a few, see the price(s) and decide on the spur of the moment. I tend to then buy from a range unless they are charging way more than an online store.

:D
