Bird feeders and pesky squirrels

We have an issue with jackdaws, lots of them. The poor sparrows, tits, doves and the odd woodpecker don't stand a chance when these bad boys are around ?

The 'bad boys' in these parts are most probably magpies...

And, we are no longer fooled by the 'butter wouldn't melt' appeal of robins... Can be quite nasty pieces of work...

We have a related but opposite problem, trying to keep the wood pigeons away from the feeders we have out for the red squirrels.

The pigeons are a menace.

We get a lot of wood pigeons and ring neck doves that do a great job of "hoovering" up all the seeds discarded from the feeders by the small birds. None left to entice the rats.

LOL, I actually met Scott smart, I went on a race school day at mallory park (Ron haslem) and Scott was my instructor! Nice bloke!

Biggest problem I had with doves was that they decided a good place to roost was on the arm of the satellite dish blocking the signal from the dish to the LNB. A few tees glued upside down to arm did the trick.

Being a bit speciesist, ain't ya? Squirrels got a right to live just as much as any bird.

The local sparrowhawks take care of some of the rogue pigeons and doves in my garden ?

same here and rooks, they pull the feeders and fat balls down,so much so that the wife now puts the seeds on the branches as the apple tree so the smaller birds get it first. i also stashed apples ubder leaves all around the edges and in the bushes so the black birds can get at them .

The missus uses a more direct approach, she bangs on the kitchen window and shouts at them
