How has your handicap faired after lessons.......Have you had a few 0.1's and big drops or have you had buffers and small drops....
This year i aim to make a decent dent in my handicap.....In the last 4 qualifying rounds iv had 36 points stableford, Nett level Par Medal, 2 under Nett Par Medal and today iv shot 36 points stableford..So that a small chop and 3 buffers in 4 rounds.......

But is it better to drop little and often rather than full shots and infrequent....
Today i wasnt swinging particularly well.....I felt tired but managed to turn with 19 points....Made a hash of 1 hole on the back nine but managed to scramble well...
I just didnt feel comfortable swinging with the new swing today.....

I felt like i was getting a bit too steep with iron shots that were resulting in me hitting them heavy but rather than dwell on them i managed to keep the mechanics and thoughts of my swing at bay...The weather was great...Warm with sunshine and no rain yet i felt like i struggled a bit to get the score i had.....Last weekend i shot 2 under in a hurricane.

Do any of you low handicappers still suffer from the odd fat or wayward shot.....And is there times when the swing aint right?

not sure what you consider to be a "low" handicapper but I'll say for sure I have the fats and thins on occasion, just part of the game for me.

.... and my swing hasn't been right all year yet, still waiting to here about Wed. Midweek medal but even that day had its fair share of fats !

I suppose low to me would be anyone in mid to low singles Pal......Iv played with a good few 2 and 3 handicappers and to be fair they rarely seem to hit a fat shot.....More often a thin one every now and then..... They always seem to hit the ball well......

I've got a long way to go :)

I suppose it also depends on what you call a fat. Certainly don't chunk it 2 foot in front of me :)

....No Pal my idea of fat would be hitting say a 5 iron from about 160mtrs and maybe coming in a little too steep and catching it fat and ending up 20mtrs short......Might have been just me today... To be fair iv a much shallower swing since my lessons but i think i may have just slipped a little today in form.......

Kid. You are thinking too much - imo!

Your description of 'fat' doesn't seem like fat to me, just 'a touch heavy' - and I've seen plenty of examples Tournament Pros doing that. Fat to me is when that shot only goes 40 metres, with the divot going almost as far!

Your scores seem like a cut is due. Too consistent to be otherwise imo. Just keep playing in a relaxed (without putting pressure on yourself) way and it will happen.

Lesson yesterday and 0.1 back today. Not worried as I feel the game is moving in the right direction. It is coming and soon

So is xmas !!
Of course im joking.:D
Dont you find though after lessons you will play worse purely because youve still
got the words of the pro ringing in your ears.
Generally a couple of steps back before the leaps forward.

Got a small one last weekend of 0.6 Pal.... Just missed another today of 0.3...Had a Par putt on the 18th for 37 points and Bogied it....

When my cards are checked I shall be making a huge drop, far to big. I have had great success with my lessons and when it is bad it does not feel as far from good as it used to.

Strange conditions today on our greens but I did not play well, I showed some form in places making me feel like some consistency is close.

I am committed to a lesson for 30 mins every 5 or 6 weeks to check the numbers and talk golf and it is absolutely worth it.

How many you lookin at loosing Al.

I seem to go through a stage of several 0.1s then a big chop of 2 or 3 shots then another series of 0.1s then another big chop.
I don't mind how I get down as long as it's going in the right direction. With the way I'm playing at the moment and with my new driver that I am hitting it long and very straight with I'm aiming to get to about 14 this season. If I could just get the confidence to aim further right then I'll be in business!

I got worse, thought I was getting better and then got worse again but still having lessons so it's to be expected. I've had 5 x .1s and a buffer so far, I'll take any cut at the moment, no matter how small

Are you now posting your "Golden Oldies" of 2009 posts Homer?

I'm sure you re released this one in 2010/11/12 also!
:D
I was tempted to do a search for that quote myselg, but figured too many instances would be returned!

Insincere apologies for the p-take Homer! Great to see someone with confidence in and a PMA to their game.

Certain to see same attitude in a couple of months, hopefully with only a couple of numbers in the Handicap entry of your sig!

2 & 3 h/cappers are a totally different level of golfer than 5 or 6 h/cappers, like chalk and cheese.

Im presuming that its just lots and lots of practice so James...... I can see by some of the replies people have a differing view of a fat shot...Me included.....

A 6 h/capper can bogie 1 hole in every 3

A 2 h/capper can bogie 1 hole in every 9

The difference is overall play standard to achieve this every time you tee it up is HUGE.

There are also different types of golfer (which I think pertains to your original question) streaky golfers and consistent ones. Streaky golfers get bigger cuts, and a huge amount of 0.1's, whereas a consistent golfer will buffer a lot and occasionally beat their h/cap by a shot or two... but not very often.
