Anyone tried to set up bias lighting for their TV using the LED strip lights rather than a specific (and more expensive) bias light.

Thinking of trying it myself to allow for light to reduce eye strain without having reflections on the TV when watching movies etc.

Have your light sources got any sort of diffuser fitted at all Bob? We kind of compromised in the extension living room, we used dimmable lights so they can at least provide some light for moving about at night but still not interfere with comfort watching telly.

Yeah they all have shades but no diffuser as such. Have now positioned them in a way they don't really reflect anymore and the reflection on my TV is pretty low. But I have noticed that when they are on the yellow tinge of the lighting impacts the set-up on the TV. This is why the bias lighting is appealing. The kits available have multiple colour settings (I have a similar one in my bedroom but it isn't big enough for my needs). Was thinking a white setting would be great for general viewing and then I could slap on the green for sports and have a less sophisticated Philips ambilight style setup.

Still tweaking with the calibrations mind you. I now know the Sony KDLW8 menu system inside/out!

Went ahead and got the lights after a wee bit of digging around on the internet. Went for colour changers rather than a 6500k solution as I wanted some ambient light rather than purely video related things.

Took about 15minutes to sort out on the TV back and I was ready to go. Thought I'd show you you guys what I was taking about. Will be attaching it a little better than the sticky back strip before wall mounting the TV.

I love those LED strips.
I've got 2 sets in my kitchen, one above and one below my wall cupboards. Also got LEDs in the ceiling.
6 spot lights and 2 sets of LED strips use less power than one 100w light bulb :)

Looks great...but...<showing ignorance> why the need for backlighting?
