thank .... hippy

A little tip which can help on the greens-either partner can putt out first-so for example you have a two footer for par and your partner has a 15 footer for birdie-a good idea is for you to knock in your par putt and leave your partner a free run at birdie.

If one of you is a long but wild hitter & the other is alot more steady - you could have one playing a risky game plan with the other playing safe.

If one of you is in trouble the other should curb his enthusiasm and make sure of a score.

Also remember that you may well be on 3/4 or 7/8 handicaps.

It is essential to play as a team. As G_E says, you'll probably only get 3/4 handicap difference with the low man going to scratch and everyone else stroking off him.

rgs also makes a good point: the team furthest from the hole plays first but you can elect to play the other ball. That can be a good strategy

Holes where strokes are involved are crucial: If you are getting strokes, you need to make them count and win the hole. If you are giving away strokes, try to demoralise the opposition by sneaking a half or even better a win.

Overall, fourball better ball matchplay is a great format so just make sure you enjoy it. Competitive golf played in the true spirit of the game is hard to beat.
