Bethpage Golf Course

It's probably only there as a disclaimer in case they get sued by someone for it being too hard, their culture of litigation is that bad!

With 3 par 4's over 500 yards, is this not playing into the hands of the long hitters? If you can nail a drive 350 yards down the track and just keep it on the short stuff you've then only got 160 left = short iron. But if you can't drive it more than 280, you're going to be left with a very long iron or maybe even a 5 wood to get home - on a par 4!

Would it not be better to reward straight driving? I like the way the USGA normally set the course up. Tough rough so if you are off line you're in trouble. Keep it on the short stuff and you can make the green - not have 240 yards to get to a par 4 green.

Maybe so Imurg....but who can consistently drive 350+ and keep it on the fairway?

The longest hitters I can think of are:

Bubba - nowehere near accurate enough for Bethpage and is going to suffer
J.B Holmes - see above, will also be too old by the time he eventually finishes the 1st 18 ;)
Dustin Johnson - not even sure if he's playing but even if he does, see comments re: Bubba.

I see it the opposite to be honest, the biggest of the big hitter will suffer as they arent as accurate, if Tiger is on form with his driver as per last week then he will find it easy, as will anyone else who can pop it 320+ (which is a lot) and keep it on the short stuff.

The people who will suffer are your Luke Donalds etc!

Stricker for me, Depending on the weather possibly toms. Of the Europeans Harrrington is good at scrapping around a hard course, and an outside chance for the big easy if he can get the putter going.

:) ;)

Totally agree with your comments re Bubba, Holmes etc.

I think Woods will definitely be in the frame, I'm going for Ogilvy as I usually do, and maybe Toms has a great chance this year.

Padraig, unfortunately has very little chance. Maybe Stenson or Casey can push Tiger, but they'll have to be deadly accurate off the tee. Just like me

So what do you think the winning score will be?

The US PGA are obsessed with length and narrow fairways to ensure the winner is as close to Par as possible...followed on from the 'Tiger-proofing' they went through a few years ago. That policy ruined the Masters for a couple of years as few birdies were made and few cheers were heard...much better this time round though.

I reckon a score of -6 could do the trick. And I can't see much past Tiger

I reckon around level par to be honest.

Tiger finished with -3 when he won the last time it was held there, it has been lengthened even more since then and I really cant see anybody shooting under par.

Maybe 2 or 3 under heading into the weekend but the Sat & Sun pin positions will put paid to the red figures.

Shame really.
