What's the best tip(s) you have been given by a pro?

I had a lesson a while back. My pro suggested I just have a couple of swing thoughts in my head at set up. Too many swing thoughts just frazzled your brain leading to a rigid swing.

Putting backswing, 1 tee length per yard to hole. It seems to work too as long as you accelerate through.

Hold your position on follow through. It proves you're swing is balanced. Also ensure the toecap on your right shoe is dirty, a sure way of knowing you are finishing your swing properly.

best tip given to me was when putting rest the putter handle against my left forearm to stop me from flicking the putter therefore sending the ball everywhere, now it gives me a smoother putt (backswing and follow through).
Also when addressing the ball just remember your playing partner will watch your ball and this has stopped me from looking up to early to see where the ball has gone hence a straighter ball flight :).

Always shoot for the heart of the green rather than the flag! Gives you more to hit, takes the pressure off!

My pro wants me to quit this plan!! I hit 30 balls to 3 pins and he thinks I should start being more aggressive. In general though, it's not bad advice. I had to laugh at the pitching section in the GM mag......get it close enough to get up n down.....WAY easier said than done!! If (like me) anything outside of 10 ft is pretty much a no-hoper for a 1 putt, the difference between the safe play and the pro play is about 1,000 practice shots a week!

I only ever really attack the flag with a wedge (should of made that clear) My approach play is always at the heart of the green.

"Trust your swing" I was told if you don't believe in your swing there isn't a hope in hell of the mechanics working correctly. Something to do with the side of the brain which controls neagtive emotion taking over and controlling the body (which is why if you say don't hit it in the water you are more likely to do so).

The moral is just stand there and trust what you have. You may only top it 30 yards but by telling yourself you are capable of hitting it correctly you have more chance of doing so. Obviously if every shot is a 30 yard to a course of lessons is also recommended

Recently a Pro told me not to play too much winter golf!
Bad for your swing playing in poor conditions too often. He said you pick up too many bad habits that take a while to correct.

Interestingly our club champion hardly plays in the winter for this reason.

I am not going to take up this idea. What the hell else would I do on a Saturday.

Mine is still to think of your swing like a tennis shot. If you were hitting a tennis shot you would draw the racquet back slowly and power through the ball and a golf swing should be the same. This thought stops me rushing my back swing and made me concentrate on tempo. Really helped having something to visualise.

My pro initially asked me if I really was a left handed golfer and wondered if I could try the proper way round. After explaining that I had played cricket to a high standard and had no problems with my batting he eventually believed me. :p
