Best start to a round?

Afternoon All,

Was playing on Saturday and was 2 under par (gross) through the first 6 holes, which was far and away the best start to a round I have had (normally a slow starter).

These things don't last and the rest of the round wasn't quite up to the same (unusual for me) level but a good round nonetheless.

Just wondering what your best start to a round has been? Did you manage to continue the form through the round or not..?

Holes 1,2 & 3 are in a little loop at our club and come back to the clubhouse. So we often play these 3 on their own if we just want a little knock.

Twice I have gone 3,2,3 (birdie, birdie, eagle) for 4 under through 3 holes.

Never had a sniff of this start when having to play the other 15 holes!!

Playing off 22 I was once one over (gross) after 6. Totally lost it after that!

I played at Copthorne with James during the Summer and started par, par, birdie, par, par so was 1 under gross stood on the 6th tee. Straight away par 5 that doesn't usually (usually) cause me any problems.
But a combination of trying to maintain my great start and a few comments from James saw me rack a 9 up there. So all my good work on the first 5 holes was undone on that one bloody hole.

The start at our course is considered the hardest part but have started par, birdie, birdie, birdie before. I just remember kicking myself for doing it in a matchplay environment.

Most people off v.low numbers are not worried about being 3 or 4 over through the first 4.

2 Saturdays ago played away at West Malling in a men's match and went birdie, birdie, par and was very happy about that.

Saturday played a mixed match at home and went birdie, birdie, birdie, par and was ecstatic about that!

Yesterday, in The Captain's Cup, normal service was resumed and went par, double bogie, bogie, par...

My best was in a Bottle Stableford, 24 points on the front nine and just kept my head down and come home on 25 points. I was playing off 21 or 22 at the time.

Birdie eagle eagle (monstrous lob in from 70 yards over trees) birdie -6 for 4 holes, ended up +6 :O
Have also been -5 for 9 holes.
On the other hand have also been a lot worse

Playing off 24, I started eagle, par, birdie, birdie.

Then fell apart under the pressure of such a good start and the looks of hate from my playing partners who were thinking "cheating t**t, 24, my a**e."

I think mine in comp is birdie, par and birdie not sure what happened after that but it cant have been pretty.

One of my golfing buddies last year went; Birdie, Par,birdie 9,6, NR.

I dislike starting well, a bad omen.

Playing at an open Moray Old a couple of years ago.
I asked the starter why most people were hitting driver on a 300 yard par 4 with all the trouble ( massive hump covered in long grass left, and Gorse Right) starting at 200 yards!

Thought 4 iron lay up to I nice distance for my sand wedge. At that point I hadn’t hit a bad shot with that club all year. Topped it and walk off the first green with a 9

In a monthly stableford, started birdie,birdie for 7 stableford points. Took me 7 more holes to get 7 more points

I’ve learnt not to start playing overly safe with a good card on the make, I tend to be too careful. Much prefer blowing up than whimpering home.

HAHA! I blew up in spectacular fashion, mate! So the handicap is perfectly valid!

Many years ago used to play at a course which started off with 2 par 5s and then a driveable par 4. I missed from about 6 feet on the 3rd one day to start eagle eagle eagle.

At the same course had a putt on the 9th to be out in 29 (3 putted for a 31 doh!)

Those were in the days when I could play the game properly, its slowly coming back but dont expect Ill ever get back to that level

Playing a matchplay, my opponent was 1 under par after 7 holes, and I was 2 up. Think I went birdie, par, birdie, par, par, birdie, par.

Best I've ever done at my course is 2 under after 3.
