Best shot ever so far?

4 iron on 18th in the semi-final of a mixed match, 1 up.

My driver was truly awful, so we took my partner's, some 180 yards from the green, with water in front of 3/4s of the green, and a narrow neck for layups (of mis-hits).

The pin is on the top tier of the green, and I would have to go over the water.

I tell my partner I'll just knock it down into the neck or short the green and leave her a chip.

Instead, I hit a towing draw shot that starts just on the edge of the water line, then crosses over the water, sailing for the green, and lands softly, with a bit of stop 4 foot from the hole.

She actually fell backwards and sat on the fairway laughing!

We won the final too.

My third hole in one - 16th at Ellesborough - hit a smooth GW , landed just past the pin , touch of spin and back into the hole.

It was the first hole in one in a club match for us it appears

The 4-iron I hit today. It came right out of the sweet spot, arced in a graceful draw and landed around 190 yards away within 10 feet of the flag. OK, I was at the driving range and getting towards the end of my 100-ball-bucket, but I've been dreaming of hitting a shot like that for ages. :) Just need to do it on the course now.

Don't forget anyone that hits a drive further than 250 yards on here is either,

Or like me...

Downhill, down wind (very strong), very dry ground (3 weeks without rain), best strike of the season, drawn to target, landed on a downslope. All those = 374 yards!

Some serious "forum distances" here, but I suppose these are your best ever shots...

Didn't we have a discussion about "forum distances" the other day ?...

There are always lots of claims about distance on here. "I drove a 330 yard par 4" etc etc when in reality the tee was 60 yards forward. I think people should look at the tour stats of the best players in the world for a bit of a reality check.

Or have a tour player at your club and see how far they hit it in person - now that's a real reality check!!

Simple one for me: my drive on the 17th at St Andrews Old Course. Not particularly long or short, it was just the drive I wanted it to be, starting over the 'O' and a slight fade. Been worried about THAT drive for months and it came off.

Playing a real Richard Cranium in a match play final. He'd tried God knows how many cheeky distractions. All square on 16 and I'm lining up a long putt. There's a crowd of about 30 around the green. He's wandering around beyond the hole jiggling loose change. I stop lining up my putt and walk over, getting my wallet out and say, "I'll give you a tenner for all that change you've rattled for the last 16 holes."

I then walk back to my ball and can it from a good distance to go 1 up, and win 2&1 on the next.

Cracking putt under pressure, and burst his balloon at the same time!

Or just plain good with a driver, I know a good few who can launch a ball off the tee but fall short when it comes to their irons "me for one" I watched a chap the other morning well over drive our "218yd 7th" (by 15-20yds) with a rescue !...

Playing the 8th hole at Highwoods, I carved my drive out to the right a little, and it came to rest under one of the pine trees down that side.
The ball was sitting nicely but I had a fairly restricted back swing, and I had to keep the ball low to avoid hitting any branches on the way out.
I was about 150 out, the green sits up on a plateau the other side of a small stream.
I elected to play a low 4 iron out, and my plan was to clear the stream, bounce into the bank in front of the green and let the ball hop up next to the flag.
Jokingly, I called the shot to my playing partner before I played it.
To this day I still reckon Seve couldn't have played that shot any better.
I clipped it perfectly, and the second the ball left the clubface I knew that I'd executed it to perfection.
The ball did exactly what I had said it would....it cleared the stream, pitched into the bank and hopped up next to the pin for a 3" gimme.
My mate couldn't believe it, and to be honest, nor could I. As I say, it was perfection.....and I could stand there with 100 balls and try to do it again and would never come close.

Maybe with carry but not total distance! Seen many a drive go well past 300 yards (not talking specifically about myself) with bounce, roll, downhill etc.

Likewise seen many a drive go 130 yards into a strong headwind

I've linked it before, but just in case anybody hasn't seen it or has forgotten it...

Probably on a par 3 course, on a long 200-odd yard hole where I absolutely stiffed a hybrid. It looked in all the way, and finished about 6 inches from the hole for a tap-in birdie.
