Best Putter

What do people think is the best putter/ putter brand. Scotty Cameron, Odyssey, Bettinardi, Toulon, Evnroll or others

Very unlikely to get a competitive advantage based on putter brand.

Main thing is get a club that suits your stroke and your body (in terms of grip and length) and that you like the look of.
Then put it in your bag, practice with it and keep hold of it for a long time.

If you have a budget for a Scotty or other top end brand, then go for that. but don't convince yourself it will be a lot or even a bit better than an old putter you've had for years, or one from the used clubs section of your pro-shop for £40 or £50.

A common mistake people make it trying or buying an expensive club. Concentrating really hard and having a good day or even a few good days. Also you have a bit of bias as you want to justify the price so you also think you've putted even better than normal.

a few weeks later, they have a bad day on the greens and think this was a waste and many even go back to their old putter, or buy a new one.

Absolute madness.

Edit to add - I went with a Ping Anser. This was after a very unbiased fitting with a pro who gave me the specs of my ideal putter... i.e. weight, shaft, loft, lie etc. I could then peruse the market place for one that fitted that spec and that I liked. Happy with my Ping, it was an indulgence in terms of cost - but will be in the bag for years.

Think I might go for a putter fitting. Not sure if anywhere offers every brand of putter I fancy. Clubhouse golf do but they don’t do putter fitting. Any suggestions from anyone.

I like the majority of the premium putter brands (although not all the designs.) I was lucky that my putter was fitted, looks amazing and I putt well with it. I would have got it if it was £30 or £300.

Search putter fitting, I asked the same question around 2 months ago. Will be treating myself for my birthday this year.

Im thinking of changing as I like to be a little left field with my golf equipment. Prefer smaller brands or specialist brands rather than the big brands. Just changed my Irons to Orka, my bags are Sun Mountain. Just think Scotty Cameron’s are common and fancy a change that’s why I got the Bettinardi and Evnroll but didn’t like the Evnroll.
Scotty are common because they are very good like Ford Fiestas.

My Odyssey #5 centre shaft has been with me for at least 16-17 years. Others have, on occasion, tried to usurp it but its always ended up back in the bag. I guess it'll see out my days nw unless something sprinkled in fairy dust comes along.

In 40+ years of playing there have only ever been 4 putters that have stayed in my bag for long periods of time

1. A Ping Answer copy (around 8 years) changed when I changed clubs because it was too light for the greens at the new club.

2. Slotline Inertia Centre shaft (for about 10 years) changed because I broke it.

3. Never Compromise Z1 omega centre shaft (about 10 years) only changed because the new model had changeable weights.

4 Never Compromise Exchange 2 centre shaft mallet (current putter)

I must have dozens of other makes and models but none have matched or bettered what was in the bag or chosen as the replacement.

Latest flirtation was a TM Spider RED CS but too light and the weight kits were far too expensive (The Never Compromise came with the weight kit included).

I love my Odyssey, had it nearly 3 years and never considered changing it. I did a fitting when I got it, I love the weight of it, the shape, the look. Those things are all that matter at the end of the day, not the name.

I've no idea why Scotty Cameron leads the market as they don't appear to be anything special, just typical blades, but people obviously trust the name. The one brand I'd be tempted to switch to is Evnroll because I've heard good things about how they mill the face to make the ball roll better than other putters - but they're awfully expensive so I'd want to see some serious results if I ever upgraded!

Impossible to give a definitive answer as it's so personal and subjective

I have a few putters but have seemed to gravitated to Odyssey and Ping. Not a conscious decision as such but I've ended up with

Odyssey Protype #9 (milled face)
Odyssey O-works two ball V-fang
Ping Anser 2 (my original putter from my junior days - took it out for a spin on the back nine today)
Ping Anser Cadence (heavier and more modern version of above)
Ping Sigma Wolverine

I’m another who prefer smaller brands. Used and still got 5/6 Scottys, 2 I would never sell but the others need to go. I’ve got a Kenny Giannini putter then went to Raa Classic, which has been in the bag for 3yrs, but I’d been keeping an eye on the Axis1 putters and the way they designed a toe up balanced putter.
When I heard they were releasing the Axis1 Rose I got one a week after the release. The only thing I don’t like about it, even tho it’s 355g head is the weight of it. My Raa had a 400g head but I’m getting used to it. Really like this Axis1.

Get fitted by a fitter who does multiple brands or buy what feels best. Most shops have artificial test greens designed to sink the ball though so you are warned.

I have a weakness for nice putters and regularly flit between different models which does my game no good at all.

Favs so far:
Kronos Metronome (currently in bag): a thing of beauty, stunning craftsmanship and feel off face. Quite heavy but brilliant alignment aid too.

Napa style putters:
Odyssey X-8
Wilson 8802 (nicer than the Odyssey in every way imho)

Anser style:
Toulon San Diego (lovely looking but not keen on the click sound off face)
Bettinardi Queen B
Edel E-3 (most unique)

Does the name matter? Isn't it more important to have the clubs that get the ball in the hole in the least number of shots?

If you get a buzz from going down that route, fine crack on. Each to their own.

Market research tells us that yes the name does matter. Plenty of people buy on name, that's why all the manufacturers spend so much money on branding. For loads of people performance is an afterthought.
