Moorland more like. Def not parkland.

I haven’t played many out-and-out parkland but I would say Gleneagles Kings is not a parkland but not really heathland —- moorland seems about right….similar to Boat of Garten

Although I liked BOG, Gleneagles Kings is really an utterly excellent course. The 9th would easily fit into my ultimate composite course (and I played it horrendously 🤣)

Of the courses I've played:
Loch Lomond
Woburn
Hadley Wood
The Grove

On the GB&I top 100 list, 97 courses look like links or heathland. Loch Lomond is the first parkland on the list at 37, before Adare Manor at 59 and JCB at 93. This may not be very fashionable, but Loch Lomond was amazing and I'd rate it higher than some of the revered courses like Swinley, Woodhall Spa and North Berwick.

I've not played many "top" parkland courses at all so Ill offer a couple of alternative options -

Coventry Golf club - little stunner.
Cleobury Mortimer (more for the actual parkland setting than the course - stunning huge trees on the older holes)

Love Cleobury Mortimer, Dave the pro is a great guy.

Took me a while to realise it's pronounced Clibury and not cleo o bury though.

And it has all three of the Woburn courses

But it doesn’t have the courses where you can’t book a green fee as a visitor

Lots of gooduns mentioned... I Played Ross on Wye this afternoon. They're renovating the bunkers and have done a super job. Great place in the summer, bit mucky in places today. I prefer it to "Rolls." Worth a stop if in the area.
I’ll be playing Rolls and Ross in August. It will be my first time at Ross so hoping for good things.

I played at Ulverston GC and was quite impressed. I like courses that have great scenery, mature trees , great layout where holes are very different, elevation changes, good bunkering, challenging greens ect.
Someone mentioned the Belfry, I’ve been there to watch tournaments but nowhere there has the wow factor. Hollinwell on the other hand although more heathland is absolutely stunning

As we all know Links and Heathland courses dominate people's lists of best courses, but which are your favourite Parkland tracks?
I'm at a Parkland, and it would be useful to be able to compare and contrast my place with those others prefer to see what we get right and wrong.

Id be interested in playing your course. Let me know when you can show me round. 👍

Others have already been mentioned so I won't repeat them but one that is absolutely fabulous and is barely mentioned is Bondhay, North Yorks.
Bondhay play in the Nottinghamshire Alliance, so not North Yorkshire. Interesting course, although there are far too many trees in my opinion.

I'd agree, I don't think Gleneagles would consider itself as a parkland, well not the kings and Queens
Most Heathland golf courses I have played are built on sand.

I thought that was a major characteristic of been heathland plus open with a lack of trees.

Gleneagles is so wet from October onwards it can’t be on sand.

Just looked at my pictures from both kings and queens and whilst I loved playing them both it just doesn’t feel like a heathland golf course.

In order from my favourite :-

Mount Juliet
Loch Lomond
Woburn Marquess
JCB
Thorndon Park
Hainault Forest (conditioning not great etc, was a council course, but some cracking layout holes on the course).

Edit from a pure conditioning point of view, almost the best anywhere Belfry
I forgot that I have played Mount Juliet.

Loved that course and would love to revisit it one day.

How good is the Nicklaus course at St Mellion, and what makes it so hard…I’ve read it’s one of the hardest courses in Britain?!
