Best and Worst services in Britain?

Toss up between Tebay and Killington Lake. As LT says, word is out how good Tebay is and it can get busy. I'll add a 3rd, Johnstonebridge up near Lockerbie.

Worst; thats an easy one. Ferrybridge. It wasn't great before but now that isn't quite on the A1 proper its a hole.

I remember going to Tebay every year when I was a kid. My Dad used to take me fishing near Castle Stewart and we'd stop at Tebay on the way up. Back then it was a proper Truckers Cafe. Buffet style all you can eat breakfast. It's where my taste for over cooked beans was born. Beans you could stand a table spoon up in... :p

There’s still a proper truckers stop at Tebay. ‘Bout 1/2 mile off the motorway.

Tebay is good and the Gloucester South which is owned by the same people is very good and much bigger. It has a very nice area for walking as well.

Exeter is quite Grimm as is Taunton Dean

Is there such a thing as a nice service station?

Actually, Yes!

Another fan of Tebay here, both on the way North (particularly) and South. The difference is only because of the position in the journey - North is about 70% of the way; South about 30%.

Cambridge Services on the A14 are really good. Always stop there on the way to and from my parents.
I'll add my vote to Cambridge services as well.

Bit of a ball ache to get to heading south with all the road works at moment. But a good selection of eateries, always clean and tidy

"
the services on the M2, take away your belts and shoe laces upon entry as it's so depressing.
.

Absolutely the worst services in the UK..
The life literally sucked out of. You the moment you walk through the door, if there was ever anything that needs demolishing just for the sake of it, it's this place. It's enough to depress you for the rest of your journey no matter where your going.

M6 Toll without a doubt, very few riff raff due to them not wanting to pay the toll. I like Leon too, have it for lunch regularly when in Londinium as there is one round the corner from my office and now one at Paddington.

For sentimental values its Chievely on the M4 J13. when we were younger used to go and play the one armed bandits after the pubs shut!

Gloucester is excellent, I always get some TBone steaks there to bring home with me

I called into Tebay last year after a similar thread on here, I thought it was kind of quaint but very expensive as usual.

It's a Motorway Services FFS. What do you expect?

I'm 'happy' to pay somewhat OTT, but the 'local produce' and the whole 'local' thing is very refreshing - and the grub and service IS good! When that declines, I'll be one of the first to point it out!

I certainly prefer that sort of experience to the usual 'chain' style one!

Because in the last thread it was mentioned this particular services was quite cheap, I found it the opposite.
Does that answer your aggressive, ridiculous question?
No!
Slightly 'overpriced' perhaps, but not excessively. And it was about 4 in the morning with plenty or staff there! I know how costly that sort of 'service' can be!

While not 'cheap', it was certainly better value than other Services!

Perhaps you should count the number of recommendations for Tebay in this thread - as opposed to your single 'not cheap' experience! Maybe your expectations are different to most!

Clackett Lane (M25) is a dump and would benefit from some US "friendly fire"

Cobham (m25) isn't too bad but its always stupidly busy.
Cobham are very good too as are Fleet on the M3.

I avoid services anyway unless it’s really desperate 😂
