So just booked an unexpected trip to Berwick upon Tweed. The brain then, of course, goes straight to the golfing possibilities.

Probably looking at one round at a ‘nice’ course and one at a ‘fun’ course, maybe with a couple of less regular players joining us for the fun round - so nowhere too sniffy/uptight for that one.

Assuming that I don’t mind stumping up the cash for a one-off (I don’t), do I even need to start thinking beyond Goswick for the ‘nice’ round?

I’m assuming Magdalene Fields that wraps round the big caravan park in Berwick would be mixed ability friendly? At least if the lesser players skip the 8th over the canyon and the rather bonkers looking 16th up off the beach mentioned in the course guide…? That one’s obviously the closest to the town, but any other decent ‘fun’ options.

Not sure when your trip is, or if it bothers you, but Goswick is off mats until late March/early April.

Great views, but the course divides opinions, particularly the blind holes.

It is well overpriced for the area, £85-£90 in the summer. Dunstanburgh and Seahouses are far better value.

Never knew it was that price these days, I worked down that way a few years ago played it a couple times and I’m sure it was about 50quid. I really liked it.

Another suggestion, 30 minutes inland from Berwick. Duns GC. Smashing place, nice course but shouldn't beat anyone up.

30 minutes doesn't sound too close but Berwick is a little isolated so you will always be travelling 15-30 minutes.

Think I’m the only person on the planet who isn’t a fan of Goswick, maybe it’s been the weather or I’ve not played particularly well there but it’s very meh for me. Dunbar maybe 45 minutes up the road, I’d definitely drive the extra miles to play there again.

Dunbar is absolutely worth 45 minutes.

I always think of Dunbar as being much further north!😁 Excellent course and great club. Got a couple of friends who are members of both Goswick and Dunbar and live somewhere in the middle.

Bamburgh was expensive at peak times, but others were available.

Dunstanburgh was excellent for the money, or even double what they charge! Seahouses was fun, a few really good holes, plenty of very ordinary. But I'd play again without hesitation if in the area again

Even although I live in Northumberland I’ve still never played it and have no intention of either at their current prices.

Maybe I’ll stick my name down for a county event if there is one there but no chance I’ll be paying that visitor green fee.

Interesting. Apart from the first hole, I love Goswick. Great test and a nice variety of holes.
Pleased you like Dunbar GC. 👍

The Roxburgh is very nice. Might be a distance from the A1 though.
40 minutes, so all a bit further. No arguing with the quality of that course

I'd argue, not very hard 😄, that the Roxburgh is too hard for occasional players. A possible option if @The Squirrel wants to play an inland course that's very good, rather than Goswick/links.

Goswick’s new hole due to be open by April, par 3 9th has gone and new Par 3 put in between 6th & 7th.

Next phase is to move the 1st Tee box to the left, making the opening hole a bit straighter and away from the trees on the right of the fairway.
