Annoyingly, our return trip to Slaley in June has been cancelled as they have just realised they have the Seniors Event on again the weekend we were booked.

So, we've been 're-booked' apparently by the chap organising things, and are now going to Belton Woods instead.

I did once go when it was 'very' new, but that was years ago, any opinons on it now pls ?
Crowd of 16 of us going. Hotel ok ? Courses ok ? Nightlife nearby ?

Cheers.

Alright mate. I'm from the area (went to School in Grantham and lived in the area until a few years ago).

Hotel - Belton Woods has come a LONG way since I was there. We were one of the first families to join the leisure/golf membership and it was good back then.

Now it's probably just as good, if not better (facilities wise) as it has alot more stuff. But the leisure facilities are pretty good. Or were the last time I used them which was a couple of years ago.

I was there last weekend for a NYE shindig. I can tell you that the bar prices are standard "hotel expensive", typical of a DeVere.

The food is O.K.

Location - Unfortunately, it's kind of stuck in the middle of nowhere. It's only a 10 minute taxi/car ride into (Grantham) town but definitely not walkable (well over an hours walk).

Grantham doesn't offer all that much anyway. There are a couple of good bars (Eden probably being the most popular and the one with the best drink selection) and maybe one or two restaurants. It does have a "good" nightlife despite the quality of some of the places. Eden will be chocked full at the weekend.

Golf - I played there in the summer. The course was in the best condition I've ever seen it. I used to be a member, probably around 8 years ago, before jumping ships to Belton Park which is just down the road.

Obviously the winter will have taken it's effect, but the greens were true and lightning quick in the summer. The course was nice and green (it had previously been dry, bare and abused) and it was as challenging as I remember.

Of the two courses, The Lakes is the "better" one. It's longer, and definitely alot more difficult in-terms of hazards and pin placements.

Hopefully you'll get to play "The Woods" as well, as it's still a fun course to play.

I don't know how much you're paying, but as long as you're prepared for hotel prices, you should have a good time.

Not sure of the quality of the accommodation these days, but they used to be a standard 4* affair. Hopefully they've refurbished them to spruce them up a little since the hotel's been there nearly 20 years now.

If you're staying in one of the Lodges that overlooks the golf courses, then you're in for a treat. I hear they're pretty cool.

I will say, if you have the time and can "stray" from Belton Woods. Take the 10 minute drive and go and play Belton Park. The winter weather won't do it complete justice, but besides Woodhall Spa, I would rank it as the best Parkland Course in the county.

If you have any other questions, let me know. I'd be more than happy to help if I can.

sorry to post this Andy but Belton Woods and Slaley Hall are miles apart in quality.
loads of corporate/weekend stayover golfers, many of which are not very good, led us to having very slow rounds. courses ok but wouldn't go further than that i'm afraid
the hotel and clubhouse are fine, typical devere
we actually had a decent night out in grantham, but have heard others say otherwise about grantham.
i would be rejecting this unless pretty decent compensation received.
also played at wychwood park which is devere and far better (although tough) than belton and also mottram hall and staverton, all are better than belton I'm afraid - i would try and transfer to one of these.
