Belfry courses at this time of year?

Looking at playing either the Derby course, or PGA National course at the Belfry over the Xmas break. Possibly the week before Xmas. The Derby don't look bad at £20. I played there last summer and enjoyed it despite some bad press it had been given in recent seasons.

Just wondering if anybody has played either of the courses recently or at this time of year before?

What are they like - boggy fairways, leaf covered greens, artificial astro tees?

Thanks

I thought the Derby was pretty decent. Greens were pretty fast. I could of probably spent the green fee at a better course in Brum, but it was a good away day.

Are they paying you £20 to play the Derby ?

Have booked on the PGA just after Xmas, so like the OP would be interested from those who know it what I am likely to expect.. As for the Derby get yourself a 2 fore 1 voucher and play the PGA for roughly same cost.

I played the PGA in atrocious weather between Christmas and new year last year. It held up really well and was in cracking condition considering the weather.

At any other location the Derby would be just another average course but because it's at the Belfry it seems to get a slagging off from a lot of people, it doesn't claim to be anything other than a basic course.

I've played it a few times and quite enjoy it, more so than the PGA in fact, but in winter both courses can be quite muddy in places.

Completely agree... Constant moaning but its our third course, is never on temps and is always in good condition based on the weather plus its always open.

Im a member of both lads - I would recommend the PGA for visitors but enjoy playing both. The greens have actually been better on the derby this week.

Not sure where you play at the moment but certainly in the local area you wont get many in much better condition based on the weather!

Enjoy

I am heading to The Belfry in March, so will be interesting to know how the courses hold up. Playing the PGA and the Brab though

I see yourgolftravel are offering the derby or pga for 59 and 79 respectively inc a nights B&B. It also says the Derby can be substituted for a 90 minute Fire & Ice Spa treatment...

This was the response I was hoping for! Sounds good. I usually play Lickey Hills GC - municipal, near to the old MG Rover site.

A group of us played the Brabazon and the PGA three weeks ago and they were in great condition. I hardly had a spot of mud on my trousers. On the other hand, one guy who had just finished the Derby course had mud up to his knees!

OP here, just wanting to see if anybody has played the courses in the last week? How did they play?

Sorry mate I haven't... Wish I had but based on the weather we have had I would say it will be in decent nick!

Im yet to play it in a state even when we have had torrential rain

Cheers pal, looking to do the PGA I think. Not bad price at all with the 2fore1 voucher aswell!

Played the pga today and greens were great. Played the derby yesterday and greens were also great but fairways were a bit soggy. Its just water though. My trousers come off clean
