As part of my lessons in how to hit a golf ball!! The pro has suggested that I have a lesson with the Explanar.

I've seen the articles in mags and the comments on here a year or so ago. But has anyone actually used one to any effect? I seem to remember one person on here buying one for the garage!

Happless,

I was put on one not too long ago, I was swinging round myself and hooking the ball. Just didn't feel natural on the plane my pro wanted me to swing, but after ten mins on the explanar I was hitting it straight as a die!

Hi mate,

I had a few lessons on this bit of kit. It gives you the correct swing plane then it is down to muscle memory. It is something in my opinion that you need more than 1 go on for it to be completly helpful.

Once you have a had one go you will find you are hitting it straight, but a few days later chances are you will revert to type.

Cheers

I've had a go on one & my pro has something similar too which I've also used. Yes they do have a positive result on your swing as far as pointed out muscle memory is concerned, but also gives you a feel for where you should be going in your swing.

If I could warrent the expence or thought I had the space I'd get one for home.

Stand with your ass near to a wall take your backswing and make sure the clubhead does not hit the wall the time your swing gets to 9 o,clock, you will get the same results as you would using the explaner.

It was always the follow through that the greatest difference would be noticed with an explanar. Though for me swinging with a ball in the forearms or a glove under the left arm at the moment would be of most use, than paying half a k on an explanar, thought from an excercise point of view could still be useful.

I had a swing lesson on one last year. I have to say it really worked in terms of getting me onthe right plane and hitting down and through impact. However as others havementioned unless you hit enough balls to make it a permanent muscle memory you'll need to repeat the training every few months to make sure you are still on plane. There's no doubt that once you come off it you'll ping the ball much longer that before

I supose for the price of a decent set of irons its not too much of a price to pay I supose to have one at home to get the muscle memory going, just so long as you can have an initial lesson to get you doing the right things on it in the first place.

No such think as muscle memory ????
Your muscles have no capacity to remember anything, memory resides in your head. Therfore no matter how long you practice a golf swing,no matter how skilled you become at it your muscles alone can't remember it and execute it when the need arises on the golf course, your muscles and the rest of your body are controlled by your mind.

hi,i had one until last week, sold it.Have'nt got the room for it anymore, think its a great bit of kit for someone starting out in golf, helped me get to 14hc in 2 years.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the suggestion was that you should go on one of these for about 6 months without going anywhere near a course or hitting a ball.

Hapless - I booked a course of 3 lessons (1 course lesson and 2no range sessions). I had my 1st range lesson last Thursday and went into the Explanar.

My swing was flat and I was rotating so much that I was almost screwing myself into the ground!

The explanar is a great bit of kit and I was closing my eyes and swing through to ingrain the sensation into my brain. My left shoulder actually feels taught when i'm at the top of my swing and the club is no longer pointing across the target line.

I for one can not speak highly enough of this device and my second lesson (This Friday 8am) will again be on the explanar.
