Beau Desert 23 Sept 2010

Fantastic day, fantastic course..........awful golf.

I played like a complete hacker but enjoyed the day so much I've been recommending BDGC to every golfer I know. The most interesting greens I've ever played on :p

Big thanks to Jezz, Mike & Paul from GM, they guys at Powerkaddy and everyone at BDGC (especially the Captain who really earns his money :)).

Jezz, Steve & Daniel were great teammates (thanks Jezz for winning me my umbrella with some very steady golf)

It was great to meet up with some forummers & hope to do it again.

Fantastic course, really enjoyed it despite absolutely hacking my way to 16 points. Thanks to GM for arranging, Powerkaddy for supporting and Beau Desert for a great welcome. The captain driving around to say hello to every group was a nice touch.

Really enjoyed my group, MikeH, Alan and Steve. Alan won the cat 1 comp playing some great golf, despite wearing shorts, Steve could have been in with a shout if a couple of putts had dropped.

We should defintely go back there for a forum game

Brilliant, brilliant day.

Mike, Jezz and Paul, thanks for a really great day. Everyone at Beau was really welcoming, nice to have their captain come out to greet us on the back nine, even though PokerJoke called him a Course Marshall!! Even the barmaid was very welcoming, eh RickG?! ;)
Powakaddy guys were cool, the new prototype is a real good un, and a step up from the Freeway II, can see a purchase coming when they are released.

RickG, Andy (Junior) & Tony (Pokerjoke), superb company. Real good fun, plenty of banter and some bloody good golf sprinkled in by everyone, thank you.

Finally a course that goes straight into the top few courses I've been lucky enough to play. I'd put it on a par with somewhere like Hankley Common, in fact, because of the elevation changes @ Beau, I'd say it had better holes than Hankley.

Must be good if better than Hankley Common. Are elevation changes, hills ?

I would just like to echo all the comments made thus far. Wonderful course, friendly staff, very chatty captain :D and a well organised day by GM.

Had the honour of playing with Bobmac, Jasetheace and a non forumer called Rod. Great company, thanks guys.

Cant wait for the next one!

Thanks to Mike & the GM team...cannot believe we played such a high quality course with cofee & bacon rolls and a 2 course meal thrown in for £43....outstanding value.

Powakaddy team were great and the new sport prototype could be on the Santa list.

Thanks to my playing partners Robobum, Junior & Pokerjoke......some great golf played....Robo driving the par 4 and just missing the eagle putt was sheer class.

Funniest part of the day was when the Captain was out driving in his buggy and meeting all the players...he was helping with the line into the double dog leg hole and gave pokerjoke the line in after which PJ replied "thanks Marshall"....priceless!!

2nd funniest was Losttheplot going to the wrong Mcdonalds....I think he had 3 breakfasts in the end.

Stupidist question of the day was one of the guys trying out Bob's V-easy....."have you got any spare ones with you Bob?".....you could hear the "kerchinnnng!!"

Closest shave.....nearly having to fork out for a hole in one....PJ's going "it's leaning against the flag"!!...tidy £14 in the 2's prize.

Well done to our team for picking up 2nd prize....superb Callaway suit bags with more pockets than you can shake a big stick at.

All in all, a fantastic day with great company.....we simply MUST go back there.

Imagine someone KNOWING how good the course was, how good the greens were, how much people would enjoy it and then having to read all about how much everyone enjoyed it ... and he didn't go :D :D :D
Maybe next time. :)
Just a wee note on this for future reference.....
A certain bespectacled member of the GM staff did ask me which course I preferred Beau or Sherwood Forest.
I replied Beau. He agreed. :D
And the lounge bar at Beau is enormous, perfect for those big society meetings. :D

BTW Rick, how did Woodhall go? Hope you didn't get too wet.

Awesome course, but didn't do it justice...it was P1shing it down and blowing a gale. Played off the championship tees....there were some horror scores coming in....I saw a 102 and I bet there'll be a few NR's.

I was winning nearest the pin when I left, but will probably get beat. I think a nett 77 was leading when I left so shows what the conditions were like. I played with a couple of 3 handicappers from North London...great lads, but they struggled as well and came in with nett 83's. I had a nett 84.
Would love to play it again in better conditions...the bunkers are amazing!!!

here's some piccies from the day;

Powakkady trollies for testing...

I didn't get back until tea time today having stayed and played at Whittington Heath this morning. Whittington was lovely today even in rough conditions but Beau Desert is out of this world. Best course i've ever played and i'll be back there like a shot given the opportunity.
Thanks to everyone on the GM team and to those in my group (Teegirl, Region3, Murphthemog) for a great round, and if it's any consolation I thought Murph looked pretty slick in the Lime green check, and I loved the shoes.
I eagerly await the next meet up.
:D

Couldn't get on last night to post my thanks (I was crashing prior to another early start to Southampton).

Huge thanks to Mike and the team for 'discovering' this gem. For me this is up there with Castle Stuart and is better than Woburn Duke's by a street. The greens are the toughest I've seen, superb roll but more borrows in one green than in all of some courses - tough but fair.

many thanks to Jezz, James and Daniel for some great company, and for the points that allowed us to get a share in the team prizes.

The PK boys put a big effort into this (and not a few prizes) but as with everything someone has to find the bad one in the batch, which was the prototype Sport I was 'testing' - somewhere out on the course there are still bits of it.

Just echoing the thanks to all the people involved in organising a fantastic days golf. The company in my group of Steve,Steve and Matt was great and so was meeting all the fellow forumers.

Oh and to follow on from rickg.... I did go to the McDonalds that the given postcode toon me straight to (cheers Gary!! :) :) :)

One funny thing to mention was Matt aka timberbonse putting his money in the range vending machine without putting the basket in the hole to catch the balls. There was a few balls rolling around afterwards!!! :D

Yeah what a great day out, thanks to everybody involved ,my playing partners bob,rob and rod really enjoyed your company, the course was just fantastic it just confirmed that i cant putt, and thanks to powakaddy for the use of the exellent touch now i have to find £400 to buy one CHEERS! :)
