BBC2 Scotland....9pm.....Donald Trump's Golf War...Tonight

Why can't these selfish knobs sell their homes and get out of the way of progress?

Why should they?

Would you sell your home if 'progress' demanded it? Why is 'progress' more important than the wishes of an individual? Why is Donald Trump more important than the residents of the area?

What would you consider to be a reasonable settlement for having to move when you don't really want to? Market value +20%? +50%?

Seriously, I'm interested.

I heard one of the residents has been offered the following:

- 2008 value of his property + 15%
- the chance of one of the new trump houses at cost value ie. £200k when its potentially worth £1M
- a job on the estate worth approx £50k per year
Yeah that's Forbes, the guy with the bombsite of a farm.

The 2008 value was in 2008 mind, and it looked like all he was doing was playing poker, he didn't attend public meetings at all, instead relied on the NIMBYs (whose back yard itr is nothing to do with btw) to drive opposition, in the hope that Trump would just cough up more. Trump eventually said take it or leave it, and Forbes was boxed into a corner.

I don't understand what anyone's problem is.

It's going to a great development for the area.

It's a business and the man has to look after himself to make it work so to hell with anyone who gets in the road of it.

Superb, the land looks great so bring it on.

While I agree with the earlier post that the Trump and his crowd came across poorly in the programme, Forbes didnt exactly do himself any favours.

If what he has been offered is accurate, I see it as a fair deal. He gets the obvious financial benefit, the option of a brand new home or £800k profit, a decent job, and all without leaving the actual estate that he and his family are so connected to.

He should take the offer and embrace the fact that someone is actually trying to invest in the area and create some wealth and opportunity in Scotland, god knows we need it!

The old man Forbes was a joke. His prized land was so precious to him that he littered it with rusty wrecks of cars and machinery. If he was so proud of his fishing heritage he would have kept all the "machinery" together in one of his out buildings rather than abandoned all over the place. In most council estates he'd have been kicked out of his home for leaving it like that.

Trump would have built him and his mum a lovely home on the outskirts of the development with a cushty little nest egg to boot............your stubborness does not say you are noble for standing up against the corporate, it says you are a mug.

There is a little more symapthy for the couple who have "renovated" the lookout. That sympathy creaked when it turned out that the bloke was married to Dog The Bounty Hunter!! :D

Grass over their roof and use it as a tee if they won't move. ;)

I had to laugh at the folk against all this............the Aberdeen area must have a huge percentage of tree huggers.
Quite the opposite. You're talking about a region that is historically largely rural, and based on farming and fishing, not a happy hunting ground for lovers of flowers and leaves.

The opposition is being driven by two English councillors, and most of the anti-brigade would similarly be unlikely to greet you with a friendly 'fit like'.

Naw, dont like him, he's a tool. He's to far north for this to work and I dont like his naming oor dunes the Doons of Scotland. The course will be a humdinger tho.

In a nut shell. I cant wait to see the finished product and hopefully play it some day. The old farmer is just a walloper for not selling. I know the farm was in the family for years but I didnt see anyone ready to take over from him and carry on. IF I was in his shoes (wellies) I would have sold up and done some proper fishing some nice warm places.

As for the couple in the renovated place I do feel sorry for them. Although he did remind me of Brutus in Popeye. They would have been well paid and could have bought a nice place together. Possessions arent everything.

Trump is a successull businessman and in the end got his way although Scvotland should thank him for this because no matter what people say he is bringing hugh business to Scotland. If his mother wasnt Scottish he probally would have walked away. I wish him ma was Irish and he could have bought my Da's farm.
