BBC interviews at Masters

Did anyone else think there was some aggravation from Westwood and Harrington at the questioning from Michael Vaughan after their final rounds in the Masters? His questions were direct and to the point but the two of them seemed to think he was unnecessarily so.

I noticed Vaughan didn't do the later interviews. Was this coincidence or am I right in thinking he was rubbing the players up too much?
 
think they pulled him from interviewing when he told Tiger he had won 3 Masters only for Woods to correct him that it was 4!!!

latest in the long line of farcical beeb appts where they use people from a different sport who are no better than fans like the rest of us
 
Vaughan is big pals with Westwood as they are both managed by Chubby Chandler so I'd be surprised if Westwood was too bothered by the questioning.

Agree though that the BBC's obsession with trying to make journalists out of ex sports people is farcical. There are loads of excellent sports reporters out there who deserve these sorts of jobs and know what they are talking about.

This. I hate to sound like a broken record, but Sky's coverage was light years ahead of the Beeb this year. Daily 3 hour highlight and analysis shows, excellent coverage and even Monty is getting better at the broadcasting gig. Also, I'm warming to Butch Harmon more and more. Really a great character.

The only good thing about the Beeb is the timeless golf theme song they still use. Add that to Sky's coverage and it's the perfect storm.
 
I agree that the Beeb coverage was not nearly as good as Sky. I watched Thursday and Friday on Sky and the analysis was great, I like Harmon and Holmes etc and am even warming to Monty! I switched to the Beeb on Saturday and Sunday simply to escape the ads but the coverage and analysis was poor compared to Sky - and will somebody please do something with that Ken Brown:temper:.

Personally I love Peter Alliss commentary as well. I find him very entertaining.
 
The BBC coverage in my opinion is much more humble in its coverage. It doesn't use the same gadgets and Gizmos that Sky use, it solely relies on the quirkiness of Aliss and Brown. I personally enjoy their coverage plainly because they show more Golf! That's all I really want. I can come to my own conclusions and be entertained by the funny little comments made by Aliss. I also hate Monty and Roe. But that doesn't really effect my judgement. :)
 
I chose to watch it on the beeb.

Main reason was Peter Alliss. An old fart but his one liners are fantastic. I think it was on one of Bubbas drives and some yank in the gallery shouted something to which Peter Alliss growled under his breath "Oh shut up!"

Add to that, I cannot stand Bruce Critchleys self important ramblings on Sky.

I thought I was hearing things while watching that! Glad you can confirm I wasn't going mad. Have to say I chuckled at the time.
 
What value do these interviews add, they are entirely predictable. 99% of the players just glaze over and mumble something about "Need to hole a few more putts", or "left some shots out there today". Boring. At least McIllroy smiles and engages the interviewer.
 
the beeb has to use these has beens because they signed them to contracts and have to use them,ALLIS is getting predictable with his inane mutterings,KEN BROWN wandering around the course throwing balls EVERY BLOODY YEAR,even fat monty was doing it on sky (when is he going to wear a shirt that fits) that scotish bird they drag out of the cubourd just for the golf WHY???

Vaughan has got the most boring monotone voice. Enough to make anyone fall asleep. How he was England captain i'll never know. And he played for Yorkshire the traiterous twit!
 
Think the amount of stick he is getting is ridiculous, especially for the Woods mistake.

Murray Walker made 20 errors per race and every F1 fan loves him to this day.

He did a reasonable job of talking to the players. Would he be my choice? Probably not, but it's like he is being punished because he was a professional cricketer and not a professional golfer, which is silly.

If Westwood and Harrington were off with him it's because they both feel like they threw away a chance to win the Masters, and that is certainly not Vaughan's fault!
