anyone else watching this on BBC? if you ever needed to justify your sky subscription then tune into this.....just awful

As said in another thread they should only cover show jumping.

Allis just sounds like the crusty old man he is......''he looks scuffy, what's all this emailing and twitter that they all seem to do,we never used to play a shot like that''...............the guy needs to move on with the times,he is stuck in the 80's.

I'm enjoying it. I like Aliss' ramblings and Ken Brown scooting about like a ferret on heat.

My favorite quote is from Peter Aliss " Do you know who I think I am ?"

I'm watching it and no complaints whatever.
Give me the BBC coverage over SKY anyday and I was brought up listening to Peter Allis so not everyone likes the new breed.

some of the stuff he's been coming out with is absolutely shocking....

I would take BBC coverage over SKY any day of the week.

At least you don't get commercial breaks every 3 minutes.

And Aliss doesn't bother me in the slightest.I think his patter is quite good TBH.

Im happy finally got some golf to watch.
Its funny everytime i read a thread about golf coverage, there a slagging off of some commentator or another,of course you could do better.
My suggestion is stop moaning and turn the down the sound, and then all you will be able to here is yourself moaning.
Not aimed at anybody in peticular, just the wingers   :)

Think you have to accept that these are two different styles of broadcasting.
On a personal level I do prefer Sky but even there I can't stand Mark Roe who in his own smug way seems to constantly criticize shots that are played. (Can someone remind me what he actually won?).
Peter Alliss is a "eccentric" person who clearly has vast broadcasting experience and works well with Ken Brown. Of course there's always Andrew Cotter for complete blandness!!
Just enjoy the golf where ever it is showing

Peter seems to be turning into Terry Wogan doing eurovision, but I still like it, as long as its golf, I dont care, and I got to hear Thomas Aitken shout FORE RIGHT after his shot, with no music, logos, or adverts in the background. Bliss.

I've never had Sky so can't comment on the programme quality.

What I can categorically state though is that I refuse to pay a monthly fee to watch a TV channel and then be subject to adverts too.

Sky's model is wrong as far as I'm concerned. Either charge for the service or fund it with adverts - not both.

If you ask me, since they are a business, I'd say their model is just about spot on. Why would you not take money from both if people are willing to pay for it?

I have sky and like the golf on it, but in saying that today's golf on the BBC has been very good as well.

Just a little less of Ken running around the greens would be nice.

The BBC coverage was pitifull on Thursday and Friday.I'm up at 5am for work, and really wished i hadn't sat up till 12.30am watching an hour of putting and leaderboards !!!
Must admit it was marginally better today, but how the hell does the Beeb justify spending so little on sports coverage, when you consider how much cr@p they spend money on ?
Really have no time for the Sky coverage, adverts every few minutes is like having a migraine.

I much prefer the BBC. The lack of advert breaks is refreshing, and "Ken on the Course" offers a good insight into the Wentworth course. I would rather listen to Peter Alliss and his quirkiness than the boring Sky commentators.

For me, the perfect set up would be the audio from the BBC and the visual work from SKY. Some of the camera work today was poor, and the number of cameras didn't seem up to the job, compared to Sky's coverage. I would however prefer Di to Hazel..
Ps...Peter Allis is the voice of Golf and should never be allowed to retire....ever

I'm just glad you dont see the commentators with those ridiculous bleeding headphones and mic attached on. They look total utter t#@ts and with the technology today there is no need to look so stupid.

And I agree with both sides of the arguments on this thread. Whilst sky does have some good footage, it tends to only concentrate on the leaders and the big names, whereas the BEEB covers much more. Also the BEEB has no ad breaks, and sky does have WAY TOO MANY. Commentators are no real issue either way, but i dont agree with people like Mark Roe passing comment on players half his age who have already won more than he could have ever dreamed of.

The other problem with Sky is that half the time due to the golf channel providing the footage you miss the last couple of holes and who makes the cut etc... Even the final holes on day 4 of comps.

I think the only way around it is to get something similar to what Setanta had, a UK based Golf Channel, by all means use sky to put it out but at least have UK presenters and concentrate on European players a little more.
