We're about to start on a refurb of our (very compact) bathroom.

We've got floor tiles at the moment but need to lift and replace these. A friend mentioned to me that a lot of new houses use a new(?) high quality 'vinyl' flooring rather than bothering with tiles. I'm not sure at all what she's talking about - is she just talking good quality (maybe cushioned?) traditional vinyl flooring or is there something new that is worth considering?

i retiled my bathroom lately. It was a good job of the tiling. I just got the wrong advice about which thickness of ply to put underneath. I put 6mm ply when it should have been thicker. Tiles all broke up and grout everywhere. No I know why there was Lino down on the floor when I moved in. Tiling is a nice touch but a pain if you need any work done to radiator pipes under the floor. Or when the Mrs says "I think we should get one of those towel radiators" You do realise I need to lift the flooring for that??

Out tiles have started to lift as the grouting has split and water has got under - and the plywood expands - and the tiles lift - and more water gets under - and the tiles lift etc... And we are getting water staining on the hall ceiling beneath. So really wondering seriously about whether to replace with tiles or not. Will certainly go look at Karndean as that is a new name to me.

Interested to hear the replies to this as in the process of buying a house that needs massive updating and I am looking at floor coverings for the bathroom and kitchen

Plywood has to be put down before vinyl is laid, as every tiny bump/ lump will show through .
But it is much easier and cheaper to change, when she decides she really doesn't like it after a few days. lol.
BTW we have tiles .

Amtico, is expensive but the best there is. Karndean is a very close second.

Had Amtico in my last house in the kitchen, bathroom and en-suite. So hard wearing.
