Baseball

We are starting to get our holiday together now. Following advice, and a great deal of googling, I have bought 2 tickets for a Friday night game, Free T-Shirt Friday!, for a grand total of $88. We are between the batter and 1st base, hoping that will give us a full view of what is happening. The tickets are one level down from the back, Promenade Box 410 if anyone wants to see https://aviewfrommyseat.co.uk/photo/72388/Citi+Field/section-410/row-1/seat-1/ .

Also, not in The Bleachers, very sinister sound to that, so I should not be burned.

I bought via StubHub, very simple, as it was around $20-25 cheaper per ticket. More money for hot dogs and beer :D.

Similar view to the one we had when we went to Piti Field, you'll see everything fine. :thup:

And it's only a short walk from the subway if you want to leave the car. :cheers:

You might need a mortgage for the beers though..... :(

I'm pleased you think the view is okay, I know you have been to a few games. Car, in NY, no bloomin thanks. Subway all the way. Florida, different matter :D.

I looked on trip advisor, we have access to the Jim Beam Lounge. $13 for a large Bud :rant:. What is that about? I'd want a case for that, actually I still wouldn't drink it. $11 for a Stella, looks around a pint. Robbing bunch. We went to basketball last time in Orlando and the prices were much more reasonable. Perhaps it is a NY thing. Ah well, the tickets work out about £32 each which is pretty cheap when you compare against football so what they give with one hand........It's an experience so I am not going to hold back for the sake of a few dollars. Anyway, it's free t-shirt Friday, I'm already up on the night :whoo:
 
The Tampa Bay Rays were lined up to give up two of their home games to play either the Scum Sox or the Wankees - MLB decided they wanted two big-name teams instead of just one and .... ahem .... "compensated" them for coming over.

It will be a get-together of British baseball fans for two days. Already planning a bulk purchase with a load of my former team-mates from the 1990s.

Where did you get your tickets from and how much did they cost? We're off to Boston in August and was thinking of going a game.

Still remember when I went in one in Tampa whilst I was still playing in the British national league. Set it for 85 mph which was the fastest it would go, bunted a couple to get my eye in and then started hitting line drives all over the place. Dead easy when they're coming in straight over the middle of the plate with no movement. Guy who ran the cage was impressed that a Brit could do that until my wife told him I played for Great Britain.

Who were you playing for in the British National League? I was playing back then too, used to play for Milton Keynes from '88 to '95 ish. Used to love playing, but Sunday's were always a trek halfway round the country.
 
Then we would have played each other. I was with the Sutton Braves from 1986-89, the Hemel Red Sox from 1990 to 1994 and then finished up with the Guildford Mavericks from 1997-2000, the final two years as player-manager. I definitely pitched a fair few games for Hemel against MK.

That's a roundabout trek of clubs. I remember playing Sutton a couple of times, I'm sure we played them somewhere near Richmond in a cup comp once. Played Hemel loads of times, but never played against Guildford.
 
Was a Red Sox fan when we lived there - they won the World Series! - Yeah, I know!
Best way was to think of it as a 37,000 seat restaurant with a ball game going on in the middle, folks do like to eat and drink at a game.
Seating can be completely random, people move and often just sit where they fancy.
Don't be alarmed if your seats are taken when you get there, just show your tickets and they will move on to another empty seat. (Mass' folks are very friendly) I'm sure the NY folks will be the same...
This happens mainly during the day - mid week, as many corporate seats won't be taken.
The action always seems to happen towards the end of the game 8th innings onwards on my experience, so maybe just go for second half, as it can be a long day. Tons of sun block, hat and maybe a cushion, depends on stadium.

Sutton had another diamond in Croydon that became the Croydon's team home when Sutton folded in 1989. I was the starting pitcher for Hemel for all five seasons, the lefty with the big curveball :-) and then finished up enjoying the managing side but never got to 50 wins (ended up on 47).
 
So I'm off on a New York/New England road trip next week and have bought tickets on viagogo for the Red Sox at Fenway. Paid $88 for two tickets, like Lord Tyrion about $25 cheaper than on Red Sox official site for same seats. Site says they will be available for download the week before game (after i leave UK) Should I be worried?

Really looking forward to the experience - any other tips for Fenway?
 
Learn the words to that damn song "Sweet Caroline" that they play during the 7th inning stretch. To quote Rachel Phelps from "Major League", "I hate that ------ song"

Please do a review afterwards, any things you recommend, don't bother with etc. I know we are watching at different places but the game is the same and as a newbie yourself as well the circumstances are the same.

That bit about a 37'000 seat restaurant, ain't that the truth. Went to a Red Sox game v Baltimore. Went to the toilet during the game and there was literally thousands below the stands, wining and dining. I thought at the time " do they know there's a game on".
