Bangladesh - Morgan and Hales choose not to tour ......

Interesting comments earlier on TMS. Apparently England's sixth wicket is the highest averaging of the year (about 83 runs) by some distance. The second highest (on about 54) was, somewhat surprisingly, the 7th wicket.

England's top order not producing the goods, including the skipper.

except Root of course.. not often he fails

Bangladesh off to a good start, 118/1 at lunch. This will be a good test of England's mettle.

That collapse was an epic one, circa England all those years ago.

Must get a lead otherwise I can't see us chasing a medium total unless the pitch just dies.

Ballance - come in, your time is up (again).

its going to be tough to get a lead on that pitch,we need Root to get his form back and hope Bairstow and Stokes can keep delivering runs from the middle order .
i think Cook has a problem with not having a solid opener with him and seems to be trying to get the scoreboard ticking over a bit faster than he is comfortable with.

picking Duckett to open just a hideous decision, both for Duckett and the team. Cook played enough tests and experienced enough not to let it affect his game though surely!

for India England have to pick a proper opener (do they have one?), i expect Hales may even get another go after this as they dont seem in any rush to pick Hameed (and would be really harsh to not give him the Bang games then throw him in at the deep end in India!) what other options do they have? Ansari or Moeen possibly but cant see either as ideal.

On the plus side for Duckett, theres a spot going in the middle order as this must be Ballances last game (albeit expect the pick Buttler)

A fantastic bowling effort, aided by a batting collapse of epic proportions, that was then undone by another weak batting performance at the top end. Cook struggling as is Ballance at present. 170 runs behind is still a reasonably large gap and a couple of early wickets will have England up against it if they want a lead. It'll be tough to chase down anything more than 250 in the last innings

Prob should have picked Hameed to open, dropped Duckett down to replace Ballance... who looks like a walking wicket TBH.

The Duckett decision smacked of the bad old days of the Moores regime when players were consistently picked for the wrong format. Hameed should have been picked before Duckett. I'm disappointed that the new regime fell into such an amateur mode of selection.
