The security teams say its ok so should they have gone ?. Do they have a divine right to automatically be picked in the next series ? Are they genuinely concerned for their safety, or, do they just want some time off before they go and rake in the money at the Big Bash in December ?

Personally, imo, Morgans leadership in the shorter formats has been superb, but if Billings comes in and scores a load of runs and the team does well, then he should have to wait. Same for whoever comes in for Hales (maybe Duckett ?)

Botham got it right. The moment the ECB gave them the option they have to accept if the decision is no. Morgan was freaked by a previous incident in India so I understand his issue, even though he is captain. Hales will come back in whatever.

I think Morgan's position could be under threat as he has not scored enough runs to be nailed on and if his replacement does well it could give the ECB the excuse they need to slap his wrists. If his replacement doesn't score runs then he will be back in.

Frankly it is messy and I feel for all concerned. After all, it's only sport.

There is no right answer here. You could argue that Morgan must go as the captain and leader of the side, however, once the ECB left it down to individuals, that was taken off the table. Because he has led well, integrating the right brand of cricket in the ODI side, he will come back into it, even though his personal contribution is lacking currently. Personally, I think he should get on the plane seeing as the security report deemed it safe, but I'm only speaking from a responsibility point of view, not his personal safety one. I wonder what the young members of squad are thinking (if selected) if their captain doesn't deem it safe to go?

Hales is the more complex one, as I think he has now pushed the exit door just that bit wider. Now that there is a vacancy in the opener's slot, there is a great opportunity for Hameed or whoever to take over this hot potato position. Hales has the ability to be the second test opener by being more selectively aggressive, but with this decision, it may sway the selectors to look elsewhere in the future, especially if his replacement has a decent tour. And remember, there should be runs to be had over there against one of the weaker test nations.

It is just a bit odd that some are going and some are not, mainly based on the same report they've all seen. Either you all go or not at all, is how I feel, but said from the safety of my own home...as said before, no right answers here.

The whole situation is not helped by Strauss lording it over the players. Claiming they have a right to choose whether to go or not, pressurising them into going and then condemning them for not going. This is the same Strauss who was conveniently rested from a Bangladesh tour when he was captain 7 years ago lol.

For me, the players have every right to choose whether to go or not, if I was them I wouldnt be going (mainly based on what was said around the time when Australia were due to tour last year and why they called their tour off). I also believe their selection or non selection for the following tour should be based solely on cricketing reasons (though not sure it will be)

Hales was already likely to be dropped from the test side and safe in his place in the ODI and T20 sides, expect it has no real knock on effect to him

Morgan a more interesting one as his place was about to come under threat for lack of runs especially in the ODIs, expect he still tours India in the new year in conditions he has decent experience in, whether it is as captain has to be less likely

Have no problems with either of their desicions

If someone feels unsafe to go then they should have the right to pull out - lots of scary stories of the place and I wouldn't go near the place

I don't think Morgan's place was anywhere near under threat because of the way he is captaining the side and he was chipping in with runs maybe not getting the big score

Hales I think is also safe in the ODI

Believe they should cancel the tour or play it elsewhere

Really poor by the pair of them. Wimps - simple as that. I think they are letting the supporters, the ECB, their team mates and the back room staff down very badly. If a team of security experts say it is safe then they should be going - it is their job.

Will they not go to India either?

Depends how much ££££ the IPL offer.

England director of cricket Andrew Strauss said: "While we understand and respect Eoin and Alex's decision, we are disappointed that they have made themselves unavailable for selection for the Bangladesh tour."

When the word 'disappointed' is used, particularly from a senior cricket board member....

But he's been fine going back to India to pick up his IPL money.

It was only in July when there was a big terrorist attack in Dhaka - no team has toured there yet and Morgan has made a personal choice. He hasn't been to pick up any IPL money since the Terror attack

All the accusations towards someone for making a personal choice in regards his own safety is pretty shocking.

And I thought they were opinions on the subject and the poster's personal choice

When it happened in India he stayed and finished his contract. Then has been back again since, I'm sure there is just as much chance their as Bangladesh for terrorist activities.

Just my opinion, I also don't think he's worth his place in the team anyway.

You have to go back to 2008 to see any attack in India on the scale of what happened just 3 months ago in Dhaka

It's still very fresh in people's minds - especially when foriegners were targeted as opposed to in India when that targets have mainly been military and police

I can't understand how anyone can ever be criticised for deciding not to go and also to make accusations against his character

It's all great for everyone to sit on their comfy seats and make the accusations ( general comment as some of the stuff been said towards him in the media is a disgrace )

Aggers has his spot - the guy has been integral to the turn around in England ODI fortunes and captain the team to winning 7 out of 8 including the highest score in history - he is showing himself to be an outstanding skipper in one of the best ODI teams England have ever had. And now because he makes a personal choice believing it to best for him and his family the daggers have been well and truely sharpened

It is their right not to tour in the same way that it is the right of the ECB to not pick either in the future.

Morgan's place would certainly be under review as his batting has been inconsistent at best and his authority as Captain is now very much in question since a leader needs to be seen to be leading.

As for Hales his Test place was already in jeopardy and if a replacement in "white ball" cricket has a successful tour then he must surely accept that no player has a divine right to a place in the team.

I think Morgan will retain the ODI captaincy, but whether behind the scenes, players and management have an issue with him not touring and it causes issues going forward is something no-one on here has any idea of and can't make a definitive statement on. As for Hales, I still don't think his test place is 100% secure by a long way and if someone has a good winter with the white ball he could well find himself out of both sides.

I have no problem with their decision not to go. You could have every security report in the world to hand but unless you put a ring of steel around the hotel/ground/tour bus there is a risk. And in that part of the world it would be too much of a risk for some.

As for future selection, if their replacements do well, including with the arm band, sorry guys but you've lost your place and will have to fight to get it back.

Is the correct answer.
