Looking to start playing some new balls....any ideas for a cheap alternative to the prov1?

skint student!!!

I found 3 balls today just by casting an eye in the rough as I walked by, maybe you could try this for a top up?

Or go to JJB and for about £20 get 3, 18 ball packs for the price of two that they are still doing with slazenger, wilson ultra and dunlop to mention 3 makes. Cheep and cheerful there ya go.

call me a snob or whatever, but i think i would rather not play than play with a slazenger ball =D

ill dig into the practice bag for now =D

i might try the ebay for some decent ones, i have been reccomended the srixon z urs which i noticed someone was playing. Also taylor made, but i dont know which one is similar to the prov1 and which is the prov1x

I am more than not going back to the AD333's after I loose the Z-URS's & Z-Star's, they cost too much to loose and with the rough becoming caggage its taking my concentration away thinking of the cash the caggage is eating every weekend.

Yep! snob is about right then. A good golfer should be able to play with any ball and adapt to it. If you have a money issue, then beggars shouldnt be choosers. If you cannot afford the top balls then you will have to take pot luck with lake balls or something.

I am a tight a*** these days and I use the slazenger balls and strangely they have successfully triumphed over many a pro v1 user  perhaps if I used prov1's my h/c would go down to +1 eh?.....but too expensive, so I wont. :D

haha! snob it is then!!

i hate the solid feel off a hard ball....even worse this early in the season when im playing like i have one arnm shorter than t'other!!

i might try a few if i can get lake balls and make my decision from that.

but are lake balls not heavier than normal balls?

hi Graembo

Did you know that last years ProV1's are now quite cheap?
For Example http://www.snaintongolf.co.uk/product.php/187/titleist_pro_v1x_dozen_2007 This applies to the ProV1 & ProV1x and two dozen for £50 is fantastic. Many say that the old balls are better than the new ones.

Personally I love playing with these http://www.americangolf.co.uk/golf-balls/golf-balls/taylormade-burner-tp-golf-balls/ Durable, Soft, Good Feel and Distance.

All the best with your choice.

SELECTED Lake balls are fine, for what you get the odd one may turn out duff but the price makes them worthy. Im getting some myself when these slazengers run out :D

I just ordered 50 AD333s lakeballs for practice on the range, I might even slip a few in the bag depending on condiction when they arrive. Tbh I have not really found any difference between new and lake balls, I mean looking at the volumes sold each year I doubt they are in water long enough to be damaged.

Why not try a dozen Prov1 lake balls from JJB and tell me you notice a difference between them and a new ball. Ideal for practice and friendlies. :D

If you want a Pro V or similar premium ball. I'm afraid you'll have to pay premium prices. As in life if you want what is considered one of the best balls, then you have to pay for it. If you can't or won't pay for it, you ain't 'aving it.

However, no need to go down the Slazenger road if you don't want to. There are plenty of good balls in the mid price range and upper mid price range. Srixon, Titleist, Bridgestone and others, make perfectly acceptable balls. It's just a case of finding one that you like.

I don't know why I'm typing all this rubbish. You'll know all this already no doubt.

Pro V1 practise balls are cheaper than the real thing. They are used at Pro events on the ranges. Absolutely identical to the 'real' thing but they have 'practise' written on them. They sell them in AG i think.

Taylor Made TP Red = Pro V1
Taylor Made TP Black = Pro V1x

Srixon Z-STAR = Pro V1
Srixon Z-STAR X = Pro V1X

Srixon Z-URS/URC is (in my opinion) an inbetween ball, not as soft as a Pro V1 and not as hard as the x.

Nike One Platinum was there soft offering.
Nike One Black was there Pro V1x offering.

Nike have new balls out that I have not tried.

You should pick up Srixon Z-URS / URC for a decent price as they are now discontinued, the same with the Nike One Platinum and Black.

I liked the Z-urs and also the Nike One Black, although the Nikes I found cut up, but not as badly as the Bridgestone in my opinion. Now I am a Z-STAR man through and through, great ball.

Bridgestone, sorry you will need to ask the people on here who like them, I thought they cut up to buggery!

There is a chap at work plays on the Volvo Amateur Tour - he gets free balls and last week gave me 3 sleeves of the Srixxon 433's.
I used them today for the first time, and for the first time ever i understand the difference good quality balls make......

Going to give the Z Stars ago tomorrow ,i have been using the URS ,i got 2 boxes in America for $40 superb and dont cut up even on wedge shots.
