What ball do you play and what's your handicap?

Do you think the type of ball you play has a big impact on your game?

The reason I ask is that someone posted on another forum for advice on whether he should use a Pro V1 or the Pro V1X. This was someone playing off 18.

My advice was at an 18 handicap dont worry about your choice of balls and concentrate on your swing. I certainly wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two.

I'm off 13 and play Srixon AD333's which I really like and are good value at £15 a dozen. I can't tell much of a difference between them and Pro V1's

As long as you are playing a half decent ball I can't imagine spending a lot on top end balls will have a massive impact on your game until you get to low single figures.

Thoughts?

I play off 18 and use a Pro V1

I tried a few different balls to see what I felt performed best for me. Pro V1 gave me what I was after so that's the ball I use.

I play off 11 and use Bridgestone e6.
I get a nice feel from them, they don't wear too badly and I seem to get a nice amount of control with them around the green.
Their marketing spiel is that they are straighter and I definitely find this to be the case versus the TM Burner TP's that I used to use.

I play off 14 (as of last week :)) I really dont know too much about how much my ball affects my game but i think sticking to the same one is a good idea.

I went up to my local football pitches after work yesterday to hit a few pitches and found that certain balls went shorter or longer on average than the others. I didnt think the discrepancy would have been so apparent on these short shots but it was. my grouping only became more consistent when i used 5 of the same balls.

I use titleist nxt tour because they dont cost the earth and I like the soft feel off the face of the club. Other than that i'm guessing :)

Mostly pickup ProV1 and ProV1x's, I find tons of them(maybe 4-5 a week) at the 9 hole course I practise at.

Got a box of ProV1's and Hex Chromes for free when buying clubs and what not, but only taken one sleeve of each out to see if I got any real difference from them, and I don't really, so I'll keep them hidden until I'm a better player and can utilise them more as I am still quite suspect for losing balls myself.

Play off 19.

I play off 13, and am about to put Callaway Tour iZ's into the bag and have always liked Callaway balls.

I've been using Wilson Staff DX3 softs which have been great, but I wonder if I'm not able to get much check on them. Great deal on the iZ's so thought I'd give them a go.

Hit the Nike 2012 ball, and it's okay, but wasn't overly keen on the sound off the putter.

I really hate the AD333, and I find the ProV1 and ProV1x too soft off the putter face.

just started using the Penta TP5.......lovely ball..good on distance and plenty of spin....

They have grown one, I got given a dozen and after using the old penta tp, I didn't like the new ones... However, played yesterday and really have got used to them, great off the tee and great feel and spin on the shorter stuff. I play off 18 also but get them cheap ;-)

Bratty - I'd recommend the Cally I's if you are looking for action in and around the green. I have been hitting them for about a year and would deffo recommend versus the I'z

Which Nike 2012 did you hit as I'm thinking of trying them for next year once the Cally's disappear (weirdly, not a great fan of the Hex )

Hcap 10

Tried all the decent balls but keep coming back to the Pro V1 X.

I do find a massive difference between even the top end balls so I have decided to stick with what works best and I am now not using anything else.

Even if I find a brand new Pro V1 now I just chuck it away as its worthless to me!!

I'm off 13 and use the Srixon Z Star.

Although I've recently used a NXT Tour S that I found, and reckon its a great ball. When I've finished using (lost) the rest of the Srixons I can see the Tour S making their way into the bag.

As a 5 handicap golfer I can score just as well with any ball. I prefer the pro v1/x, z stars for the feel and control but I don't shoot lower scores with them. I could play with a molitor and score just as well.

I am off 18 and have pretty much always used Wilson Staff balls. Started on the DX 2 then the old PX3 and now the DX3. If I am flush with a bit of cash or see a deal then I use the FG Tour as they are the best ball to putt with that I have tried.

Now I have a box of Callaway hex Black to try I will see how they go.

The one ball that is certainly not for me is the AD333. There is something about it that I do not like. I do quite like the Srixon Trispeed but they cost a fair bit more than the DX3 so I rarely buy them

Well said Durango.
When it comes to balls some folk really know how to talk, sadly it is generally the ones who play the game poorly. They overhear what a young pro may say and repeat it so that it gives the appearance of knowing what they are talking about.
IMVHO you need to be heading towards plus handicap before you can really feel the difference between quality ball makers.

I am currently playing Williams RT3 golf balls. Because no one else is. They are ok mid price balls.

I have been using Bridgestone B330RX, which I like but have run out of.

I have a box of Penta TP, which I will use next, and a box of ProV1 which I will use after I lose the Pentas.

I play off ten.

I don't like a ball to be too soft (think Wilson DX2, or Srixon soft feel). I certainly don't like hard golf balls which click off the putter (think any thing Cally have ever made, and Topflight, both of which are made by Spalding). Other than that, I'll play with anything.
