BALLS!

Have to say in fairness I preferred the Z Star and TP black but I did get good control despite the click with my putter and around the green. Ironically it didn't really click on fuller shots. I had a dozen Ix from last year and was really trying them out again after having used TP black (and the Nike's I got at Christmas from GM). Fortunately the way I played on Saturday I have less to worry about than I did on the first.

To be honest I can't tell the difference between the premium balls off the woods and irons but some of them I can't feel off the putter at all. I found a Titleist Tour Prestige the other day and used that for a couple of holes. Couldn't feel a thing off the putter - it was like wafting it around in the air.
I quite like having a click off the putter - lets me know I've hit it!! :D

Going to start my dozen iX's this week but I've got 2 dozen Z-Stars on the way. If they come in time I might just use one friday....

Love the feel of the pro v1"s"dont use anything else,if i lose one, so what, get on with it,cost to me un-important,couldn't play a competetive round of golf, with a ball that i would have no confidence in.any other branded ball no matter what condition, that i find, goes straight into my practise bag

I am having a play with the Nike Tour D and the Z Star x at the moment, iam loving the crisper feel on the short shots and they give me a consistant spin nothing silly like a pro v1

Great in the wind too i just have to decide which i should start playing with for the rest of the year

Best to stick to one ball whether its a rock or a sponge if you want to develop real feel for those fiddly shots. -or so I've read! ;) :p

No, they won't. If you are playing badly, ProVs will make it worse. The difference you experienced can be put down to concentration, as you didn't want to lose an expensive ball. This effect will wear off rapidly.

I dont go along with this..........so, lets kid on the ball is £100 and we all play better, but just for a few holes. I've lost a new ball and used a old one and played better. How do you work that out. I'll tell you, it's sods law, nothing whatsoever to do with the ball change.

OP asked:

I was just wondering realistically how much difference the ball you use can make when you're rubbish at golf like me.

Massive for me - often forgotten is that a 'pebble' as someone called the cheaper long distance balls, will give you an extra 20 yards with the driver, permitting a shorter iron (more accurate) for your 2nd shot
