I'm sure this question has been asked before...

I've never played with a Pro V 1 or Pro V 1X before however my dear old Dad has persuaded me to try them out, he always plays with a Pro V 1. I've just used the online Ball fitter on the Titleist website and it recommends the Pro V 1X. Has anyone got real life experiences to tell on the differences between the Pro V 1 and Pro V 1 X.?

The pro v1 is a better ball for the majority of golfers, your swing speed must be pretty high for that to come out as a recommendation.

According to the blurb the pro v1 will optimise the spin off a driver and more on a wedge at lower swing speeds. The pro v1x may provide more distance but you really have to compress it.

That said, I wouldn't play either. Even though I like the pro v1, there are equivalent balls for me at a lower price point. I like a premium ball but not at £3 each.

The V1 is 3 piece, the V1x is 4 piece. The x used to be aimed and marketed towards higher swing speeds, but curiously not any more.

I have been playing the V1x since last October, having used the V1 for 18 months prior.

Yesterday I found a new model Pro V1 while looping for my ball in the rough, and decided to Play it for the remainder of the round.

I didn't notice any distance changes and thought they were both about the same. Definitely softer off the putter and seemed to hold greens a little better, but if anything, it was marginal.

Is suggest buying a sleeve of each and seeing what you think to them.

+1 to what everybody else has said on here. I prefer the pro v1x but the z star xv and Cally hex black are cheaper and very good equivalents. You can get the hex black for £23 a dozen now as well.

I definitely find the x to be a bit straighter off the longer clubs, and it flies a bit higher too. Spin wise I don't think golfers at our level would really notice the difference from a wedge, I don't anyway. Regardless, don't think the tour pros would use an x if it didn't spin the same from short pitch shots.

In saying all that... I'd never fork out 40 quid for 12 balls! Too many good equivalents at half the price these days. Hex chrome plus is terrific, and spins every bit as much for me, while holding its line well off the driver.

I use Pro V1's but have tried the X's and the only difference I could see was around the greens and with short irons - the 1X felt firmer and less responsive with chips

I prefer the v1x to the v1 - feel like it spins a bit less, so a bit straighter off the tee, but still spins enough to offer control.

Having said that, my ball of choice is the Z-Star. Same performance for less (going for £35/dozen in AG).

Used to play ProV, but changed to Bridgestone in past 18 months due to the rise in cost of Pro v. I won't go back to Titleist, the B330 just as good as proV and someone in the golf industry said that Titleist pay Bridgestone a certain amount per ball for every Pro V they sell. So cheers ProV users keep buying them, as that will keep the cost down of Bridgestone. :D

Why would Titliest pay Bridgestone for every pro v they sell ?and is it just Pro V's ?

+1 to this, pro v1's are an expensive option, equivalent balls for less are available. I believe that Titleist would not have the kudos it has without then giving them away in their 100000's to everyone on every tour.

They infringed several of Bridgestone patent and they pay royalties to them. As do Nike apparently, so Tiger uses in principle play Bridgestone.

It's based on Titleist Pro V1, the Titleist Pro V1x, the Titleist NXT, Titleist NXT Tour, the Titleis DT SoLo, and the Pinnacle Exception golf balls

At the end of the day use what ever you feel happy using regardless of price or name etc

Everyone will have their favourite ball - find one to make your favourite

Find the x is straighter with the driver and comes off the putter face for me better

This,.,

I find the prov1 a little too spiny with strikes that ain't quite right, a fade borders a slice, a draw borders a hook. The x suits my game better and seems better into the wind as it spins slightly less
