Ball position- Putting

Did anyone notice in the US Open how many players seem to putt with the ball fairly central in the stance?

Is this something to do with putter head shape?

I've always been taught to play off the the left heel, ie left eye over the ball to get the top spin on the ball.

Any thoughts?

Middle stance and forward press for me.

about an inch forward from the middle of the stance, but if greens are slow or im fringe putting its 2 inches further forward.
