Ball in bunker

I know that you are not allowed to ground the club in a bunker but is your club allowed to touch the sand as part of the back swing when making the shot?

Who was it actually lost a playoff a couple of weeks ago because they called themselves up for touching a blade of grass on the backswing, when playing a bunker shot ?

If you were allowed to do this, you could drag the club back through the sand to make a little trench, effectively teeing the ball up.
